Miss State-UConn going to OT

Poor offensive spacing by UConn at the end of regulation caused bad passes or they might have won it at that point.
Maybe we could have snuck in too. No, can't see it.
Some bad foul calls at the end too.

Geno gave the most gracious post game speech that I have ever seen.It is a conversation that he hasn't had to engage in for 3 years and watching his reaction told me everything I needed to know about why he is the best of all time at what he does.
All in all a pretty good year for Dak Prescott and his Alma mater..:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

While I agree that UConn losing is good for the sport and can help regenerate interest in women's college bball, I don't agree with any comments mocking the Huskies. What they have achieved has been remarkable and I feel, especially as old rivals of theirs, that they deserve nothing but our respect for their accomplishments.

I was expecting a UConn-Stanford final, Stanford having been IIRC the team that ended UConn's last winning streak. And the added attraction to that matchup would have been the sisters playing against one another for the title. I don't think they have a consolation game anymore, do they?

It seemed like a pretty clear flagrant to me. Elbow to the throat and everything.
BeK - in the replay the attempted pass was blocked and the MSU player went up to stop the pass. No intent at all. And the acting job was Oscar-worthy. At that point in the game it should have given the game to a UConn. But the basketball gods intervened.

67, I have to disagree. Not near the play and she was in the process of knocking the UConn player to the floor, not going for the ball.

But, as you say, it made no difference in the result, so perhaps the basketball gods saw it your way.

Watching the semi's you have to salivate at how many talented women are playing college b'ball. What will it take to get Rutgers back into the Top 25? It is pretty clear that "staying the course" is not the solution. Just wondering if Pat Hobbs is thinking Top 25 over the next few months (given the payroll it will take). I thought Geno's post game remarks were very thoughtful and sincere. It is apparent that he is surprised that UConn maintained their winning streakl (given the talent around the country) as long as they did. On another note, the UConn women no longer have to debate among themselves whether they will accept an invitation to the White House! C'mon Rutgers, let's get busy in rebuilding WBB!

I 100% agree no intent. However, under the current rules, intent is not required.

It is still subjective, and I wasn't sure on whether it was an acting job or not.

And in answer to '52, the rules do not require an ordinary foul to be called, the player was never penalized for "fouling" the player in the play, they were given a flagrant for their elbow making contact with the other player's throat. This whole rule thing is an effort to reduce injuries, but it is still a difficult interpretation for the refs, deciding what was part of an ordinary basketball move and what was caused by high elbows or whatever.

As to Geno's very sincere remarks, yes, his players this year were young and untested, and I thought he was very well spoken. However, if you haven't - check out what is coming to UConn for next season, while they only lose Chong. Another long unbeaten streak is absolutely in the offing, I suspect. At most, this game was a reminder that no-one is invincible.

Yes, they have two transfers (one 6' 6") who sat out this year + another blue chip frosh class.

Agree 100% with RU67 if you watch the play which both commentators did not the defender was trying to get in the path of the ball when her teammate blocked the pass as she raised her arms to grab the pass she caught I think Samuelson. That play was 100% accidental and should not have been a flagrant. There was no swinging she was just going to intercept the ball!!
