More Hyatt

And wolf. Dean didn’t have his best tonight, few missed rebounds that could have been crucial and held the lead at 8-10 pts. But yeah Hyatt was solid tonight, and even though Mag was in foul trouble, gave us something on O, which we’ll always take haha

We have a good two-headed 4 in Mag and Hyatt. Neither is good enough to play 30 minutes, but both contribute a lot in the 20 minutes they each play.

They were BOTH outstanding tonight. Mag had 9 points in 15 foul plagued minutes, and Hyatt had 10 points.

I loved Hyatt tonight, but I don’t think it was a coincidence that NWU went on their 14-3 run when Mag left with his 4th foul. Hyatt is the better offensive player, but Mag is an elite defender and the energizer bunny that makes our D click.
Aundre keeps getting better and is paying unselfishly now, which is great to see. I think the 2-headed Mag Hyatt monster is the best for RU.

Hyatt had a good game but he got burned on a 3 not getting over a screen and then burned really badly for a layup on the next possession. 5 points in a row all on him. Points Mag doesn't give up. Mag was excellent shutting down Audige.

Defense is half the game. It matters. It matters to Pike a lot

He had a 2 possession stretch where he didn’t get through a screen and got beat badly off the dribble.

Similar to the Iowa game where he lost No. 20, leading to more than a couple open 3s In the second half at a critical juncture. But, Hyatt’s effort on D is improving so hopefully too will his success on D.

Well said, both were excellent.

More than half in this program. NW scored 9 straight possessions. Played last 11 minutes with starters. Caleb had a possession where he was in a position to contest a 3 and watched.

The bench HAS to step up and be used.

So happy we won and won a close game (2 in a row now)

Some of you are too critical. Everyone played as hard as they could. Hyatt was terrific tonight. Spencer was lights out and Paul set up many of our offensive sets. Cliff had 11 rebounds and Mag scored 9 points. Caleb had steals, Simpson had a steal and Reiber had 3 points. That is all who played. I am proud of the guys. We fell behind by 4 points at 62-58 and closed out the game with the final 7 points and it was a huge win on the road.

Hyatt should get minutes from McConnell when Mag isn’t in foul trouble. McConnell is a weak offensive player and holds the ball too long, and his D just ain’t there anymore

The combo of Mag/Hyatt is a good one.

Mag defense is so good and while there’s a drop defensively with Hyatt he gives us a boost offensively.

Yep - this is why Mag starts…but Hyatt is coming along and provides that offensive threat we need.

The bench was in when the comeback was happening. Dean was really poor in the second and Simpson didn't have his A game either

Wolf needs to get back in the rotation. He was bringing something to this team

Mag/Hyatt was why we won today. They both stepped up.

Need more offense from Paul and Caleb. Too much dribbling without creating early in the shot clot from both of them

Yes it’s simple for Pike to rotate those 2, but I’d rather see Hyatt get McConnells minutes. Pike plays McConnell as much as he does out of loyalty but the production/contribution just isn’t there.

I am stumped as to why Woolf has been dropped out of the rotation after being so valuable up until about 3 games ago. It’s f’n ponderous, man, just ponderous.

It seems like it was letting the 3 before half a couple games ago then a bad foul against Iowa... meanwhile Dean keeps messing up and it's fine?

He needs to let Wolf out of the doghouse. The team needs him. He grabs boards and scores really well around the rim. Adds toughness and brings energy

No he doesn’t. He plays McConnell over Simpson and Miller. He’d love to play Simpson more if he felt he could to give the guards a rest.

He doesn’t consider Hyatt or Mag options to play perimeter positions against decent defensive guards because they can’t handle the ball.

Agree. Reiber is overmatched physically.

Hyatt can handle it well enough to be a 3. Paul the 1. Spencer 2. Simpson should always be Paul’s backup. Listen, I get that McConnell will start for the rest of his career (this year) but I think more of that is loyalty than production.

Hyatt was really bad at the 3 last year. He was really poor defensively covering the 3. He's much better at the 4

Putting the defense aside (and it was bad) - Every time he dribbled the ball on the perimeter I’d hold my breath waiting for the strip. It was horrible.

It was a problem. I do think Hyatt is making a very good effort at protecting the ball more and forcing it less though. At the 3 he will need to handle the ball more and be expected to do more off the dribble

To this point, I don’t think Pike has liked what he’s seen with many line ups with both Mag and Hyatt in them. I think it’s as simple as that. He prefers how we look with one or the other. Maybe it changes with different match ups.

not going to be hard on Caleb...just a subpar night from him, it happens.
