With the emergence of Michigan as a top 20 power team, it appears Rutgers has just completed its most difficult 5 game stretch of its 146? Years of playing football. And that is even with 4-5 Indiana included in the 5.

Assuming a win tonight for OSU,
The combined record of the other 4 teams we just played are 32 - 4
With Indiana it is 36 - 9

Among those 4 teams are 2 top ten teams, one top twenty and one that has flirted with the top twenty during the season

Can anyone think of any stretch of opponents that have ever come close to what we just completed?

This would make a difference if the losses were close, or even within 20 points. The last 3 games are inexcusable (and btw last time I checked Wisconsin isn't Alabama or LSU)

The reporter asked the most relevant question in the after game presser: something along the lines what can you attribute the difference in last years performance and this years? Michigan's coaching change? Flood responded that last year's team was old and B1G ready. This year we're young.

So the team that is now fully his (4th year) is not B1G ready by his own admission?

Totally agree. It was obvious coming into this season we were replacing many key players at key positions with very young and inexperienced players. It was clear to me and many others I knew that this was going to be a rough year. And to make matters worse we lost our top player on both defense and offense To injury for most of the season. And the defensive backfield was devastated by the off-season issues and player dismissals. We are so young it is rediculous.

Glad Slyker doesn't believe in making excuses for the team...

wgat are the excuses gonna be when we lose to Nebraska? Army? Maryland?

The funny thing is people think next year's slate is "easier" bwahahaha!

and your point?

There was no point being made in my OP. It was an observation of our recent schedule and a research assignment for anyone to come up with any stretches of schedule that ever came close to this recent stretch.

I brought it up because I had not really thought of it in this way until tonight, and I had not seen anyone on this board discussing it and the major challenge it was going to be. I guess since Michigan was only an avg team last year people did not look at this stretch in the preseason as the gauntlet it had actually become when it became clear how strong Michigan had become.

What excuse ? I made an observation. Do you disagree with my observation?

I am trying to think of any comparable stretches of games. Can you?

Welcome to the B1G and the division of the National Champion.

slyker is playing with everyone, no real fan would be making posts like this after the last three games

What would I be playing with. Just trying to bring some reality to the situation

And can you dispute my observation? Or help me recall anything similar? I truly believe this was the most difficult stretch of games in our history.

Did anyone really expect anything different? I did not expect our young team to be competitive in any of these 4, but we did a nic job against mich st.

I do not see any five game stretch in their that rivaled what we just did.

Thank you Mrs Flood for your opinion. Now go into the kitchen and make Kyle a sammich!

Well, the good news is at least Rutgers will be getting paid a lot of money to battle Indiana for last place in Big 10 East Division every year.

Instead of just bashing the coaches and teams, nj.com should write stories on topics like this. Analyzing past year schedules and comparing it to what ru just went through. That would be an interesting read. Unlike the boring crap that give us daily.

And how old are the stupid... "Must be mrs. flood, or. Must be. Laviano's girlfriend" comments every time there is a post in support of those two. Those jokes were funny maybe the first time I read them, maybe ten years ago.. But in every thread. And multiple times in a thread? Really? Can people come up with anything else at least?

Yes, slyker, how about considering that the bench might be a development strategy for breaking a slump. Think about it.

The Las Vegas over/under for wins this year was 4.5. It looks we will be right there as expected.

This board continues to act like a child having a temper tantrum. Are there any adults left?

Great post by a 5th grader!

From the early 80's to the Big East 2.0 when Miami, BC and VT left. RU played good teams every week.

So no, it's really not that much different.

Yeah, I guess a "real fan" bashes the coach and the soph QB.

A "real fan" only want what is best for Rutgers. WHAT IS BEST FOR RUTGERS!!!!!! GET THAT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULLS.

You Flood defenders are the REAL ENEMY OF RUTGERS.

Did mr hondo77 really expect something different out of these four games with a first year starting QB (whoever it was going to be) replacing three OL starters and burton. As well as losing arguably our best two players to injury. I would love to see rational reason why anyone would be expecting an improvement this year.

Slyker, you really have no clue do you. I don't care if we play the top five teams in the country in five straight weeks. The truth is, this team does not pass the eye test. You can bring up all the stats you like. You can make the excuse that we lost this guy or that guy. But the truth is every team loses guys to injuries. Baylor just lost their starting QB last week. This week they brought in a freshman QB and didn't miss a beat. The product is crap. The coaching is crap. Flood cannot recruit at all in NJ. He's a good guy, but he has not elevated the program. You keep making excuses about how we played this team and that team. And how we're playing such a tough schedule. The question I have for you is why not us? Why aren't we the team on everyone's schedule the fans and coaches fear? Why aren't we a top 25 team after the players that Schiano left behind? Why aren't we beating teams by 30? Seriously!! Stop making excuses. All of our fans understand how much talent we lost. But the team has regressed so much. We are not playing good football

And we fooled ourselves back then thinking the big east was really as competitive with the big boy conferences as we thought and said we were. Yeah Miami was at the top of the food chain, and vtech had a few years that they were pretty good but those other teams were really never that competitive nationally and deep down we really knew the BE as a whole was not at the level of those other conferences.
