Mulcahy Commits to RU!!

Read Carino's article linked above, he gives credit to Geo Baker.

“He’s one of the only kids from any program that reached out to me (during the recruiting process),” Mulcahy said. “We talked a lot, and not just about basketball. That’s what I want to be surrounded by — good people.”

Thanks Geo!!!!
nice , and nice job Geo! great to hear.

Some are worried about Ron Harper possibly losing minutes at SF. Things will work out. If Ron continues to grow who knows he could possibly play a few minutes a game at PF as well. He even wanted Paul to commit to RU. It is wonderful to have guys just concerned about winning. We are moving on up.

Yes but...a senior Thiam and sophomore Harper (who I am sky high on the potential of) are going to warrant basically all of the minutes at the 3. Good problem to have and one Rutgers fans aren't used to seeing, but it is a definite obstacle for any coach as you have to watch out that nobody is sulking about their role too much.

"Play the best and be fair to the rest".

--- Steve Pikiell

Let them all compete and the cream will rise to the top. That's how you win games. This isn't T- Ball.

Paul is here to play point guard. He isn’t in play for Ron’s minutes.....not that Ron would still want him here if he was a 3

Ron Harper Jr. Is just as highly rated, doesn't play the same position, wouldn't care if he did, wanted Mulcahy here openly on Twitter, and seems pretty confident he'll get his own thing done.

Happy they're both coming.

The battle for guard minutes is gonna be real interesting next year. Pike is gonna have to manage some expectations and make sure chemistry stays a positive. With McConnell, Young, and Mulcahy competing for minutes, 1 or 2 guys are gonna be disappointed. I think Baker and Mathis are the ones whose minutes will be most secure. Don't know where Kiss factors in at all really. I'll be intrigued to watch it shake out.
Mulcahy's not competing for minutes next yr unless you're talking about his high school team. Wake up

Competition and depth are a good thing for everyone, and modern college hoops teams play 3 or 4 of these lengthy guards on the floor at the same time.

I love the talent and the team-first kids that Pike and the staff are recruiting.

I love Harper too. Especially by Harper’s sophomore year, when Mulcahy arrives, I think Ron Harper, Jr will play as much at the 4 as he plays at the 3.

It all will work out.

Congratulations to Coach Pikiell, staff and Paul Mulcahy on their hard work.

Happy to have this Jerseyite on the Banks. He seems like a great kid.

Let's go Mulcahy!

Uh, maybe I didn't "get it" because the guy said "next year". The second I read "next year" I didn't even bother reading the rest of the post that mentioned Young. Why would I?
The statement "next year" is accurate. This year is 2018. Next year is 2019.

I assume what you meant is "next season", which begins later THIS year.

GRF, I never said Paul was not here to play PG. My point was that if Paul plays a lot of minutes at PG than Baker, and McConnell will fight for backup minutes at PG and they will also compete with Mathis and Kiss at the 2G. Mathis or Kiss might get minutes at the SF spot as well which could take minutes from Harper or Thiam. These are all moving parts. I also said I could see Harper if he continues to grow and having long arms could get some minutes at PF which I could Thiam getting as well. Pikiell will probably play a lot of different combinations with our depth and players that can play more than one position. Mulcahy is coming in to play PG and run the show. Young is also a PG. Hopefully things will all work out.

Also, the young players entering high school will have no knowledge of UConn's glory days.

The Huskies are in the rear view mirror.

6’5” with a plus plus handle and the ability to finish at the rim. Yes , please. And I’d wager the shot plays in the B1G by the time he takes the floor for us.

You win with guards and Coach P is going to have 5 with potential on the ‘19-‘20 roster. Plus three wings with potential. One more year being thin at guard. Better injury luck than ‘17-‘18 would go a long way.

Amazing how much Vegas is on here.

The board needs a Vegas on it to stir it up a little bit...we all need those RU fans in disguise....someone bring him a RU shirt during their next visit to Sin City....

If they go to a game they'll see the banners hanging from the ceiling and if they get invited on a visit they will stop by the practice facility and they will see those trophies.

But even more important than that they will see the pictures of all the Connecticut players that played in the NBA and that is what's most important to these kids. Going to a school that they believe can get them to the league.

And yes, I know, the current coaching staff had nothing to do with getting those past Connecticut players to the league. But that doesn't matter to recruits it's not how they think.
