Now that Geo is back his minutes must be cut down as he is hurting the team by being such a non factor on offense. He has so many open looks and just refuses to shoot the ball. A perfect example was he had a little 4 footer yesterday and instead of taking the shot he tries an impossible pass to Myles and it results in a turnover.

Bad take

Bad take. He has made some sloppy plays recently but no more than JY or Myles with that pass to Harper, etc like all of them he makes up for that 1% with amazing play the rest of the time. We need him in the game to create plays for easy buckets when we go on droughts. However he is still a freshman so I agree in the end game you want your most experienced on the court

He has struggled the last few games. Remember he is a true freshman. And all of our true freshman the last couple years hit a wall at some point. Maybe that's happening here.

I still trust his judgment more than I don't. He continues to do all of the little things well. And his decision making more often than not is spot-on.

The reason your take is poor is because he did not pass up any of his open looks yesterday. In fact he took a 3-pointer in the corner which he used to pass up but took the shot. I thought it was going in but he back rimmed it.

You are also forgetting the number of times he gives our guys easy layups that they miss. Carter missed two yesterday.

We are extremely lucky to have Mulcahy and I will continue to trust our head coach with how many minutes he gives him. He is playing the rotation to perfection this year ( even though I would have liked to see Geo coming in the emd of the game a bit sooner yesterday)

Myles made a pass yesterday that was horrible. 20 foot pass with like 3 Nebraska players around the ball. They all make bad passes.

I really don’t understand some of the comments on Mulcahy. When he comes in, I’m happy. He changes the game in a positive way for the team. This is the type of player we’ve needed for awhile. Even the announcers are raving about him. They said he had a PHD in basketball. His teammates must be thrilled as he makes them all better.

I get defending Mulcahy.. I love his game too. But OP is correct.. when he turns down open shots he is allowing his defender to play off him and help out and shut down passing lanes... he needs to shoot when open.
Do you agree with OP that his playing time should be limited? Or that he needs to take the shot when open?

I remember the play and think Paul should have shot. In his defense, Myles was undercut a bit keeping from getting to pass. I think PM will be special.

I was thinking the same thing. We play high intensity defense and he’s got to have tired legs. No way he has ever played this kind of defense against this competition before. Playing AAU is all offense and hones the skills. HS is only 30 games and still not as intense. He went from jogging to sprinting. The kid has had some really great moments and just need to recharge a little. I like his game a lot.

I'm sure the coaches are well aware of Paul's abilities and comfort level at this point in his development, but he's an important part of the rotation. The coaches have a plan for minutes depending on stamina, fouls, and game situation so minutes will vary slightly among Geo, Caleb, Mathis, Young and Paul. In fact, Pike has been going with a four guard offense

Don’t forget he scored 30+ points a game a few times in HS, averaged a double/double ... I predict a “remember when” thread in the future about the comments on Paul’s scoring sometime in a year or 2 ...

Paul only played 12 minutes yesterday, so Pike clearly understands his limitations. Nebraska has a bunch of quick guards, and Paul is limited in guarding them, so he didn’t get a ton of playing time.

On the whole, Pike’s rotations have been superb over the past 10 or so games.

Ya, I think he is a natural pass first pg to begin with, but the fact that he is a freshman on team with numerous options, he is passing even more then he normally would.

In time as he builds confidence he'll look for his shot more.

Completely not worried about Mulcahy.

We saw him get beat off the dribble, no question, but he also had a couple bad passes, so not a great game by him, and his minutes were more limited as a consequence.

Baker getting back to full speed plays into this as well.

Am I right in saying this is not a true plus minus but something akin to WAR?

Paul reminds me a lot of Caleb’s freshman season last year, especially for scoring and rebounding.

When you look closely their stats, Paul is shooting better from both 2-point and 3-point range, while Caleb was better at the foul line in his freshman season.

Where Paul especially excels is in his assist to turnover ratio. Caleb was 1/1 as a frosh while Paul is 2.5/1, which is outstanding.

It will be interesting to see how Paul develops into his sophomore season and beyond. If it’s anything like we’ve seen from others then we’re all in for a real treat.

He's a true freshman who plays with control and confidence. RU doesn't need him to come in, take a lot of shots and have a double double every game. Pike is building a program where he can develop a 4* True Freshman by rotating him in when needed, and play to his strengths. Pike is building a program where he doesn't need to throw True Freshman into the fire. Pike is doing it the right way.
Paul is working very hard to develop that 3 point shot, and once this season is over he will work the entire off season to have the confidence to take and hit those open shots. Paul is going to be a very good 4 year player for this program.
Fans need to understand that Paul isn't one of those 5* one and done players but he will work hard and improve every year. What you are seeing on the floor right now is the tip of the iceberg. It's only going to get better and things are getting exciting at the RAC.

I have been saying from the first game that Mulcahy needs to shoot more. He needs to be a threat to score or he will not be the great assist man that I think that he can become at Rutgers.

Although yesterday he made many mistakes, I think the team is better with him on the court.

He needs to think shoot and score every time he touches the ball.
