#126 overall player in the nation. This is their ranking, not the composite ranking
soooo pike has gotten since his start:
4 stars: Duke, Harper, Mathis, Mulcahy
3 Stars: Shaq, Johnson, Geo, McConnell.
impressive.
Welll awareNot all ratings are the same.
Harper is 3 star on 247 and 4 star on Rivals.
Mulcahy is 4 star on 247 and 3 star on Rivals.
Duke is a 3 star on 247 and 4 star on Rivals.
Let's just say we got some good players that will help the team in the future. How they play when they here is all that matters.

[roll]No doubt got bumped up because he chose RU.

I think this is the first time I have ever read this kind of statement, even with it being in humor.
Neither should we. The amount of worry from some on this board over Russ's objective analysis of Mulcahy's defense and how many stars he is currently getting is too much. Relax. It's gonna be a great time for Rutgers basketball!!!Our staff doesn't care about rankings - not even a little.

I answered this question 4-5 years ago in the same way RU Choppin-Ohio did....and in recent months, I have had random people that know I am a huge RU fan and all of these people are sports-centric.....One is a former CBB referee and here is what he told me a couple of months ago, when I asked him the perception of a lot of programs (ie Villanova, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Duke, St. Johns etc).....
"I see Rutgers has landed some big-time recruits, it's been a long time since they've done that".....my response was, "well, they did land some big -time kids when Mike Rice was there".....the response was, "Yeah, but that was a long time ago, it wasn't until recently that I'm hearing more about Rutgers recruiting being much better for basketball, Pikiell is starting to get some kids in there".
I'm adding this because while the ranking system in theory, doesn't matter, IT DOES matter to a general public that isn't following recruiting rankings, or following high school basketball....so the media coverage, press coverage and information talking about Mulcahy, Mathis, McConnell, Young, Harper Jr, Carter all matters.....it matters because the general public is hearing positive things about RU basketball....
Once the public perception starts to change, the minds start to change with the general public, the referees, the other coaches in the conference, the media covering the games, the opponents start to view RU differently....
It is to the point where last year at this time, I had people chirping in my ear about how talented and underrated Geo Baker was and we still had fans saying he would only get 18-20 minutes a game last year AFTER Nigel Johnson was going to transfer out.....and that was only because "Who else offered Baker, if he was that good, he would have had bigger offers".......we had our own fans skeptical, strictly based on who did or didn't recruit the player....instead, he played 30+ minutes, averaged double figures and was the 300-400 range ranked recruit.
If Baker wasn't talked up as the potential focal point of the future, it would be tough to change minds about where RU is going....now that he had a good 1st year, has gotten involved in the recruiting process with Mathis, Strickland, McConnell, Young and now Mulcahy, you have a "buzz".....doesn't mean we will land all the targets, but we will be better because of Mulcahy being with RU.....
So while Mulcahy has another 18 months before he steps on the court at RU, his recruitment in the region and state carries more "clout", than landing a transfer from Florida State (Obiegu) that Seton Hall landed....while both players may have as much of an impact on the success of their teams, RU benefits more by landing Mulcahy, because we are coming from the depths of not winning for a very long time.........if the roles were reversed and RU landed the transfer from FSU, there would not be as much buzz if anything........if Mulcahy went to Seton Hall, it would have extended the notion that "Seton Hall landed another local quality recruit".....That matters in changing minds in the area.
There are certain recruits that carry more "weight", than others.....and while Baker didn't come in with that advance buzz, his recruitment and performance showed recruits like Mulcahy that you can thrive here.....and players like Corey Sanders etc., showed potential recruits like Montez Mathis, that you can "double down" and bet on yourself at RU.....Mathis as much as anyone, started this process of changing the tides here as the 1st signature signing.
I can only confirm that this "buzz", helps open eyes and keeps other potential options on the table.....
It keeps the Aundre Hyatt door open as a potential final piece for 2018 or 2019.....that Hyatt isn't going to be asked to do all the heavy lifting.....he will have help coming into the program.
It signals that Mathis isn't going to just be the only signature recruit.....he's complimented with a rising recruit like Harper Jr, Shaq Carter......to land a
Jacob Young with Power 5 school experience and having fans wonder whether he will find minutes.......if this was 4 years ago, it was whether Nigel Johnson leaving Kansas State, would start right away......that doesn't happen without that perception change....same with McConnell......and now Mulcahy....
So while it doesn't matter where Mulcahy is ranked until he proves it on the court, there's a perception change that RU is going to be better.....and that matters much more than I believed it to be 4 to 5 years ago.....whether it's real or imagined, it matters and Mulcahy is a huge recruiting win......
Over Seton Hall......
Over UConn and Danny Hurley......
Over Xavier....
Over the perception of Doug Collins and Northwestern, who has to maintain momentum that Northwestern isn't going to revert back to a celler dwelling team...........
So it matters folks, it's a big deal......you listen and learn....the next 6 months of information/"buzz" about RU basketball is extremely positive.....
And for those still holding out on the hope of Hyatt for 2018 or 2019, Louisville has offered Hyatt this afternoon.....the competition for quality players continues...
Interesting... wouldn't want another sit out transfer, but the kid seems to have potentialLance Thomas, stretch 4 freshmen from Louisville is transferring from the program. Believe we offered in 2016.
No way we finish last.I’d be happy with not last place and/or winning record.
What team are we better than?

You forgot Omayuri- 3 star
Transfers- kiss and former 4 star Young.
Not sure what Kiss’ ranking was but he has to be the equivalent of a 3 star minimum,
Very true. It’s time to start focusing solely on Pikiell and what he built going into year 3. The first 3 years of a complete rebuild are always the most difficult. He started from scratch and now we get to begin to see the rewards of his hard work. And the rewards this year may still be short of post season but there will be moments in my opinion where an unexpected win happens and moments where other coaches start talking about Rutgers and say this team is loaded with young talent and will be a force in the next two years. There has been a continual pull and tug difference of opinion between fans from the wishful thinking and the realistic viewpoints. In the end just like perception of the program winning matters in attracting recruits that will be successful in the B1G.Breaking the succession of losing seasons has been a albatross hanging around the basketball program which needs to end this season.
