1. Paul is not wired like the typical college athlete. He is not a " show me the $$" guy
2. If you want to assume it's strictly about money, Paul already had a descent ( by Rutgers standards) NIL in place, the guy donated a portion of his NIL last year to team managers and the band, and as much as I am a huge fan of his, he just won't command the $300k range that Cam was seeing.
3. In other words, the difference between what Paul is currently getting, what he could be getting if the collective ponied up ( they certainly have room for him), and what he will get on the open market, is NOTHING CLOSE TO CAM
3. By all accounts he had a very close relationship with Pike, almost to the point of family, Steve had to know what was going on, especially AFTER the Cam news hit. There is no way the staff was blind-sided by this
4. I am not buying the narrative that the fan base was mean to him .
5. For 4 years, PM functioned as our PG. Many thought ( myself included) that this wasn't a natural fit for his skillset, and Fernandes was bought in to allow Paul to play off the ball. I assume Pike would have consulted with Paul before making this move and he was testing out the draft waters for 2 months, there is no way Pike wasn't prepared for this.
While I really don't want to see Paul leave, I have to believe Pike has a bigger plan, whether that involves sacrificing 2023 to get to 2024, we will find out in the next few days. My only fear is without Paul, we are really lacking depth, I pray we don't shit the bed in 2023 and lose the pieces that are currently in place
