Here is what the leading Penn State expert predicts related to which Rutgers wrestlers will qualify for the national tournament. It seems like wii be get 5 at worst and 9 at best.

Josh and WNG - what do you predict ?

Rutgers has had a pretty good year. My quick take on what you're reporting.

125:
B1G gets 7
Rutgers has McCabe, who I would rank behind NaTo, Gilman, Nico, Lambert, Oliver, Youtsey, and pretty much even with Jimenez. McCabe could get in, but he's right on the edge

133:
B1G gets 9
Rutgers has Giraldo, who I would rank behind Richards, Clark, Conaway, DiJulius, Montoya, Taylor, Alexander, Malone, and Bruno. Like McCabe, Giraldo could get in, but he's right on the edge.

141:
B1G gets 7
Rutgers has Ashnault. He's pretty close to a lock. The only guys in the B1G I'd have ranked ahead of him are Micah Jordan and Thorn.

149:
B1G gets 6
Rutgers has Dippery, who I would rank behind Zain, Sorenson, Sueflohn, Tshirt, Pantaleo, Short, Griffin, and he's pretty even with Crone. Like McCabe and Giraldo, Dippery could get in, but he's right on the edge

157:
B1G gets 7
Rutgers has Lewis, who I would rank behind Nolf, and IMar. Lewis has an excellent shot, but Ryan, Cooper, Murphy, and Berger are about even with him, and Mascolo isn't that far behind.

165:
B1G gets 6
Rutgers has Perrotti. He should get in, as the only guys I'd rank ahead of him are Jordan (Wisky), BoJo, and Rodrigues, with Welch being pretty close and Wilson not all that far behind.

174:
B1G gets 9
Rutgers has Bakuckas, who I would rank behind Nickal, Brunson, Meyer, Jackson, Barnes, and Wanzek. Robertson and Morrissey are pretty even with Bakuckas. With 7 AGs, and Bakuckas being about the 7th guy, he should get in.

184:
B1G gets 7
Rutgers has Gravina, who I would rank behind Abounader, Cutch, Brooks, Miklus, Dudley, and Courts. Koepke is pretty even with Gravina. As such, Gravina is right on the edge

197:
B1G gets 6
Rutgers has Hyrmack. McIntosh, Pfarr, Burak, Studebaker, Huntlery, and Martin, at a minimum are ahead of him. He's going to need a miracle to qualify

285:
B1G gets 7
Rutgers has Smith, who I'd rank behind Snyder, Coon, Stoll, and Kroells. The odds are greatly in his favor of qualifying.

So to summarize, Rutgers might get 9 to qualify, but they would need almost everything to fall in place for that to happen.

McCabe and Giraldo have struggled down the stretch. Would be nice for them to win a few in the Big10 Tourny. Hope Giraldo makes weight, too.

i will be at big tens in iowa city...terrible place for travel out late sunday. admittedly happy to be flying private with a PSU friend (my grad school)
big ten is strongest or tied for strongest in every weight class, but is less dominant than last year.
analysis above is spot on...we could have 9 or only 5. ashnault, lewis, perrotti and smith assume are in naturally (knock wood) or get wild card based on rankings. i feel good about gravina too, but he needs to open with a win and not leave anything to reffing. (which he usually does not)
Then need to see which mccabe, giraldo, dippery, bakuckas, and hrymack show up.
i think we go to the show with 7...giarldo, Ashnault, lewis, perrotti, bakuckas, gravina and smith. but i hope hayden makes it. sacrificed his body and redshirt eligibility for this program.

Seven sounds about right. Can't expect all weights to break our way. Hopeful we get 7 and then have 3 AA. That would be a tremendous accomplishment for the program in my book. If we get 2 AA's I would still be OK. I will revisit championship expectations after the conference tournament.

SHP posted who "earned" the qualifying spots for each conference on the mat.com forums.

link here.

McCabe, Girlado, Ashnault, Lewis, Perrotti, Bakuckas, Gravina and Smith all earned berths for the B1G. Dippery and Hrymack will have to pull off some big upsets (note at 149, Tsirtsis did not qualify a spot that is another guy who will need to "steal" a spot to make NCAAs).

I think Josh has it right. 4 very near locks with Gravina very close. 2 qualifiers from the other 5 weights is very doable. 8 would mean a very solid B1G tourney performance.

Interesting that RPI is same or lower than the NCAA coaches rankings for every wrestler
