NCAA Lacrosse Playoffs

Gotta give it to Uva- they were more physical and shot much better today. Their goalie was great. The two things they needed to do. They looked much more rested. Yale looked tired and slow. Gotta think the Penn St game and short rest didn’t help.

Uva is building another monster. Their recruiting, as usual, has been off the charts.

UVA didn't win a conference game in 2015 , 2016 and 2017. In Year 3 of a new HC they win they National Championship. That's what I call a rebuild.

Won today by dictating pace and solid defense Pole to Goal.

We can now put to rest the dominant Big Ten nonsense.

ACC , Ivy and Big Ten are all great conferences.

We could see the same 4 there in Philly next year.

The only thing we should care about is when RU will A) finally make this damn tournament and B) become a regular participant in it.

It’s incredibly frustrating seeing the rest of the Big Ten except Mich and RU have moments in the sun (multiple NCAA appearances and a Final Four appearance) the past 5 years.

Same at Brown under the same coach, Lars Tiffany. Won zero games in 2006. He took over in 2007 & won the Ivy League in 2008 & three more titles after that. Took Brown to the NCAA's three times, including one final four. Now that's Coaching & program building at both Brown & UVA.

Goes back even farther, to 1999 & 2000, when he was DC at Dartmouth for Rick Sowell. Despite an Admissions Office that would make one wish for the degree of support that RU gives RU lacrosse they began to give the program respectability. Tiffany took off for Penn State in 2001. Sowell got some late bloomers with SATs and made the tourney in 2003, losing to Syracuse 13-11 in the Dome. Despite having 3 soph HM All-Americans, Sowell took one look at the 2003 recruiting class and left for St. John's.

The B1G being the best conference is hardly nonsense. I’ve been watching lacrosse intently since the 80’s. Ive not seen a team get as many breaks as Uva did the whole year, including seeding in the playoffs. You play who is in front of you but that was a worn down Yale team. No question.

Uva has a lot of advantages. I expect them to be a player moving forward in every tournament.

Uva is an example of a school recruiting itself. Even after their last coach was fired, he left a stacked roster. It isn’t a surprise the next coach would win quickly.

You might not want to watch Michigan next year. They are going to be good.

I can see the argument that those are the 3 top conferences with none of them dominant. The problem is the committee and the Baltimore Mafia still treats the ACC like IT is the dominant conference. Duke being seed higher than both Yale and Penn was a travesty. Hopefully there will be some balance in future years.

Duke, who lost to High Point and their conference title game, seeded higher than Penn, who won their conference and who's only losses were to tournament teams. Thus both Duke and Virginia got cupcake 1st rd. games and the Ivies played each other in the quarterfinals.

Actually, both the NCAA AND the Baltimore Mafia love it.

Yale and Penn should have been seeded 2 and 3 and not played each other. Then UVA 4th and Duke 5th. Still say Maryland was robbed in that terrible call to tie the game.

Maryland didn't deserve to get in over Cornell IMO.

So as opposed to the Ivies getting screwed with only 2 teams in the tournament you opt for the B1G getting screwed. And given Cornell's road win in South Bend there's a viable alternative to Maryland being excluded.

Alternatively, Virginia could have been seeded 2nd or 3rd given their conference title and Duke seeded 5th. That also averts the travesty of a Yale-Penn quarterfinal.

Yeah but we beat them head to head and had a tougher OOC schedule.

We got paired with Duke in the Quarters so I don't get the outrage with Penn and Yale

MD respectfully half the posts on RU Rivals Boards belong on the Wailing Wall-----the Committee hates us , the refs screwed us , we have no money

Silly

Yup but, hey, we’ll get there in another 10 years. It’s a process and if you don’t donate you can’t possibly understand this!! .

It's hard NOT to get a quarterfinal matchup when you have 4 teams in the tournament. It's very easy if you only have 2, and they both belong in the Top 4. That could have solved by giving each of the top 3 conferences 3 teams in the tournament. And all 9 teams would have been deserving.

Not only can't you understand if you don't donate, but you don't deserve an opinion that questions. The new criteria!

Minus the sarcasm you finally got it right. Though I’d submit you can always have an opinion in such case. It just doesn’t matter.

Wow another new criteria! You're opinion doesn't matter if you don't donate. Wonder to whom it doesn't matter?

Everyone whose opinion matters. Welcome to the real world. This is nothing new. Maybe to a Rutgers fan, but in the real world of college athletics, the people who donate matter most. Especially at a cash strapped school like RU.

Being a message board warrior doesn't really move the needle.

I'd just add that sending a son to RU lacrosse counts as a contribution.

You guys are funny. Of course donations matter. Of course those who donate, especially those who donate more, have opinions that are going to be heard more (and louder) by those in charge AND potentially influence things. Having worked in our athletic department, having been around it for freaking 45 years, and having a friend who is one of the top donors to one of our programs, whom I talk to about this kind of stuff on a regular basis, I completely understand all of this and, for one, know my place WHICH is not one of influence. Never have claimed otherwise.. Anyway it doesn’t make one opinion right, or the other wrong, I would like to think we can all agree on that.

Oh really! What is this some sort of totalitarian dictatorship, only those who spew the party line or fork over get to have an opinion that matters. Do you go to the games? If you don't maybe your opinion doesn't matter. I'm in my latter 70's & get my ass to many games even in the tough weather early games. I don't give up my voice to anyone or to some bogus criteria recently invented to stifle critical opinion after a disappointing season.

Good for you. I am sure they appreciate your attendance. But this is nothing new in sports. Look at Alabama football. You think the guy in the stands is getting phone calls from Saban or their AD because he attends games? I know there are people on this board and in this thread who don't donate and don't even attend games, yet have the most opinions. If you think those are taken seriously, that isn't how this works.

I go to one game a year even though I have season tickets. Considering I live in Ca and make a special trip simply for the game, I wouldn't say that's a bad thing. I wish I could make more. It's tough with my travel schedule. I am most interested in supporting the best way I can. Donations and mentor-ship.

Most important are financial contributions. I'd like to do even more. That's what's needed most. Everything else is nice, but it doesn't move needles.

News flash! This is a message board the purpose of which is to let people express opinions & allow people to have discussions regarding them. Who anointed you to establish some phony criteria to determine whether or not people are entitled to an opinion, particularly one that does not toe the party line? You've expressed ridicule for the Football team & program? Do you donate? It shouldn't matter if you donate or don't to any sport in order to be able to express an opinion. That the opinions of people who don't donate won't affect policy or decisions is neither here nor there. And I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the cumulative voices of all fans in having an effect. No one elected you to be the arbitrator or judge as to who can voice an opinion & what kind it should be or else it doesn't count. And by the way from what you've indicated you're a pretty wealthy guy. Get your backside on a plane & get to these games or forget about having an opinion. No excuses. How's that?

Those with friends in the program get their voice heard

Those who played for RU should have their voice heard

Those who coach lax at the HS and Club levels should have their voice heard

Those who donate significant $$$ get their voice heard

The above folks are all involved with the program and hopefully someone listens to them as their insight and knowledge can hopefully help the program

However, this is a message board. While some may be “closer” to a player/team/program and have info they can share ( that’s why we’re all on here ) no ones opinion on a message board is more important than anyone else’s. We can agree that we all want the program to succeed. We can even agree to disagree about things. But no one’s opinion is more or less valid than any others....even if they “donate”. Just because someone’s situation allows them to donate more than someone else, doesn’t make them any more “right” than the other guys. Someone’s life experience is what should earn them the respect on this board, not their donation level.
