Coach CQ is hopefully, and frenetically searching for a couple of assistants. I would love to see a couple of experienced known name folks, especially those with already good ties to NY/NJ. Thoughts? Who would you like to see?

Mabry from ND would be a good fit. Has experience as an assistant at 3 schools, major contributor for 3 final four teams and from Manasquan.

One of the Coyle sisters and or a top NJ high school coach.

Mabry would be nice but I don't see her leaving her alma mater for a lateral move at this point. The other two sisters look like they may be playing pro ball for a while. If Dara doesn't get a spot in the league, she may be interested in joining the staff next year.

I'm hoping we get some kind of big news on additions today. I know it takes time, but this lull is killing me.

Gotta give us something to keep the good vibes going.

A NJ HS coach might be a must for recruiting Jersey plsayers.
That and the possibility of only a limited amount of qualified experienced college assistants being available right now and ones holding fairly good jobs debating if going to RU would be a good move the way the program looks now and if joining CW's staff would help them reach thir career goals or delay getting to where they want to be in the future.
Help CW make RU WBB a good program would help career advancement.
But if CW fails to make RU a good program her assistants will have to find a place to get their careers back on track .
Even if they did a great job at RU, losing takes away from that and careers aren't made by being associated with losing.
The lure of being part of a B1G program is not that great if it looks like it might be a loser for a few years because on being a mess that needs fixing.

I don’t think high school coaches necessarily.
I feel there are only five schools that have players to be recruited. The other schools routinely lose their players to the top 5

ie Paulina Paris left a small school to play at Saddle River Day for recognition. They have had 5-6 div 1 players in the last 4 years. Number 2 In The state

Zoe Brooks transferred into Vianney after soph year. No one in the state

Antonia Bates transferred from a pa school to Rutgers Prep number 4 in the state

I am not sure but Hannah Hidalgo may have transferred in also

so those are really , to me, the only NJ players that are Big 10 ready

If she has visions of being a head coach, Ivy is young and there’s an associate HC ahead of her at ND. She’s been there 4 years, so RU may not be lateral depending on what role (lead recruiter) she’s offered. Plus she could return home to the garden state.

Does that mean you have info that there have been additions or does it just mean you’re hoping for news.

Good points. I just think that the ND program is closer to the big stage(Elite Eight, FF) right now and if they are able to take it that next step led by O. Miles& co, Mi.Mabry would be in a good spot to get a worthwhile HC job in the next couple of years. Doesn't have to be at ND.

A move to RU would likely delay her shot at a good HC spot IMO, as we are further away from impressing.

It'd be great if she would join Coquese.

It would be interesting to know the financial resources available for assistant coaches.I'm pretty sure its far lower than what is paid to men assistant coaches.

It’s a public school, so the salaries of past and current assistant coaches can be found in NJ public employee salary databases such as the one at the Asbury Park Press. The overall amount available for assistant salaries is usually stated in the head coach’s contract.

The problem is at least one assistant must be strong recruiter because HCCW is not. To me our only hope this late is , again, Michelle coming back

without a coach she, I think, brought in the best player in Pennsylvania ( Smirkle) and a solid junior in Kai Carter.
There are , we’re , 20 offers out and the only person all these girls have known for months were Michelle and Nadine

I really think the idea of a highlight video from the RUWBB Media Specialist, that would kinda give a history lesson on Coquese, would help us a lot right now. Kids today may not be aware of who Coach CW really is. Would have been nice to have been done at her introduction or in the days immediately following.

Show some of her ND highlights as a player > Houston Comets and NY Liberty clips > PSU highlights of her best teams in action. Alex Bentley at PSU under Coquese and then in the WNBA. Other top players that she recruited. > Coquese on the ND staff coaching current coach Nielle Ivey.

It might just help kids ability to picture themselves playing in her program. Top prospect kids and portal entrants.

Also, regarding potential assistants.....You figure she may consider those who worked with her at PSU. Unfortunately, Banghart at UNC scooped up Coquese's top asst a year ago. Another is struggling to hold on to a HC job at Lafayette. Coquese may be able to pry her third former PSU asst from an asst job at Western Kentucky(Jocelyn Brown).

More possibilities....Just throwing these out there. Former WNBA teammates, Sue Wicks, Crystal Robinson from the Liberty....Tina Thompson from the Comets.

Maybe Marianne Stanley being let go in the days following CW's hire is more than a coincidence.

Michelle Edwards, from our fan point of view, seem like she would be great for any staff.

Lastly,,,,,maybe she chooses one of the many former players who she has coached, either at PSU, ND, or during the short stint at U of Oklahoma. Just like the current PSU coach brought in Maggie Lucas.

She's got to be making progress,...with all the connections she has?!!

One other route to consider is one of the more recent WNBA players or high profile WCBB player who couldn't stick on a roster. A cerebral player who has an interest in coaching, ... like Kia Vaughn mentioned.

RU Asst C salary probably easily tops the average to bottom WNBA salaries. If they didn't want to play overseas, a position on Coquese's staff must look quite appealing to this type of candidate.

Last one,......I promise! Someone who would be good for our program under any coach. I don't know if she has ever pursued a spot in P5 coaching or is even interested........

Yolanda Laney!

She has all that it takes to be an excellent asst. In terms of player development, did heck of a job with her own daughter. She knows the game. IIRC, she has worked with youth leagues across the Del/Philly/NYC region. Excellent for recruiting!!

I just may have saved the best for last. She would be a great fit.

Laney is the chief municipal public defender in Atlantic City. She must be about 60.

Interesting, in reading an article about her, Vivian told Yolanda and Betnijah that she was thinking of retiring last October, but they respected her confidence. But, as I say, interesting.

Please, I appreciate the enthusiasm. But when you throw names out, it might get people excited. For example, Wicks is busy with her oysters, she has left basketball as a career. Thompson was just fired at Virginia, and only had 3 years as an assistant (at Texas). I mean, you take what you can get, but wouldn't be a strong option. Crystal is an assistant with the Mercury.

Hey, that's what this thread is about, just throwing out names. I remembered all the articles about Wicks getting back to her roots with the oyster farming. She was still doing some asst. coaching at the HS level I believe. I threw those names out because they are people who have been or are currently coaching. Yeah, I watched Crystal Robinson on the sidelines last night against Conn.

Funny thing is, I did the same thing when we were talking potential HC replacements. I threw out Coquese. A day or two later, ..........

I don't know what kind of relationship Coquese has with these former teammates, but if it were tight, who knows what they decide to do if asked.

And yeah, Tina didn't succeed at Virginia but that doesn't wipe away her knowledge and experience in the game. If she ran a clean program at UVa but just didn't win games, then she could easily be worthy of getting another asst coaching job. I know she could have done wonders for Tiya, Sakima, and Chyna's footwork in the post. And maybe helped Osh extend her game to the perimeter.

Desperation is not a good look.
and I think desperation is what CW is feeling in the search for quality assistants.
My guess ( might be far fetched) is CW will bring in a HS HC from Jersey that is well liked by the local HS coaching fraternity in order to get a foot in the local recruiting door.
The other assistants will be , on an older long term assistant at a successful college program that's in a lower rated conference.
Then an up and coming younger assistant from a lower level program but considered one that might be ready for prime time without the experience most need to get a place in a major conference program.
The older assistant for game strategy, the young on to work with the HS coach hired to bring in recruits and learn the finer points of getting the team ready to compete at their best

In any case , the best and brights have been taken and good gambles that can help are the best we can hope for.

I have no clue what the actual situation is regarding the assistants but the lack of any info does not inspire any confidence.

Hate to sound like a broken record. Ten weeks , or so, to camp and five months until 2023 signing day.

there is no time , at all, to learn on the jobthrre is no time to endear yourself to prospects.

only two at the moment are relevant . Hannah Hidalgo and Zoe Brooks. Both have had long standing Rutgrrs offers and our assistants got to know them. I have no idea what CW is doing but they know Michelle and with her a fighting chance. Without her 2023 recruiting will also be a bust

also down in Florida is a really nice wing Alyssa Latham .She and Michelle follow each other on twitter and has actually visited campus in season

so while there might be choices that may appear more idea desperate times

I think that you definitely need some NJ flavor as an assistant
