New uniforms officially approved for high school wrestling

Rutgers University head coach Scott Goodale, who previously coached at Jackson Memorial and does an outstanding job recruiting the Garden State's fertile wrestling ground, said if the two-piece uniform option helps more prospective student-athletes come out for the sport, he's in favor of the rule change.

This may be stupid, but how does this help? Do kids just think the one-piece looks stupid?

I'd think cutting weight, cauliflower ear, and the stigma of grappling with another dude would outweigh a uniform choice as reasons wrestling isn't a high participation sport.

And no, I'm not knocking wrestling. It's a great sport.

no they think it rocks. thats why you can buy singlets at every major sporting good store. can't keep them on the shelves. kids are always buying and wearing them.

I think the idea is that some kids who aren't in the best of shape don't want to go out on the mat alone in a tight, skimpy singlet and will be more likely to participate if they can wear something more modest.

I don't buy it, but that's what I hear...

I can see a kid in the down position, the other kid with a tight grip around the waist, bottom kid stands up to get out, and his shorts come down to his ankles because of the tight waist grip, lol. A couple times this happening and singlets will be popular again, lol

Kids are self-conscious and insecure when younger ... i say try it and see if it makes a difference ...if not, go back to the singlet
