R Hoops Fans,

I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the young men of the Rutgers Men’s Basketball Team. During my many trips up and down the New Jersey Turnpike, I always knew Rutgers was a place I wanted to be. This is a University with so much potential and I know it is just waiting to explode, and I am excited to be a part of it.

We have an opportunity to build something very special here. I will work diligently to create a Men’s Basketball program that will make the entire University and the state of New Jersey proud. It will take all of us here at Rutgers, the band and cheerleaders, the faculty and staff, the fans, the community and you, to help us build a championship culture.

Each day I am on campus, it becomes more apparent to me that the Rutgers community is one of the most passionate and dedicated I have seen in my career. I promise that our young men will come out and work every day to reflect that same passion and dedication both on and off of the court.

My family and I are so excited to join the Rutgers community. We look forward to meeting all of you and seeing your faces in the stands as we pack the RAC.

Now let’s dance!

GO RU!

Sincerely,

I think it's a nice touch. As a season ticket holder, was I to have received this?

I am happy that he sent the letter....this line was over the top... During my many trips up and down the New Jersey Turnpike, I always knew Rutgers was a place I wanted to be.

the 2nd paragraph is the message in my eyes. You can tell by the letter that he has certainly bought in to his role as marketer.

I got it and I was just added to the contact list a week ago. Maybe spam?

It was a bit canned and a rehash of what he has been saying since hired, but it is all him. He oozes positivity. You will never see him get negative or veer away from the mission. He is one guy that keeps his eye on the freaking ball.

P.S. I wasn't going to post, but what else was I do do for the 4 minutes and 7 seconds that I was listening to Bowie?

Going to get killed here....too phony for me. The 1st and 3rd paragraphs are too much for me.

Quite honestly, I thought the same thing as I read it. As I read the line, "the Rutgers community is one of the most passionate and dedicated I have seen", I was wondering if we are really more passionate than the average P5 school?

I'm all for giving people a chance but this is not the guy to take us to that next level. As for the letter, very very nice.

At Stage 5...ACCEPTANCE i think passion is gone.

Why do you find it hard to believe that Steve Pikiell would drive past Rutgers and think it's a great opportunity? Practically a whole generation of up and coming coaches has spoken out loud about Rutgers' potential to become a destination hoops school.

well, if you want to give him some sort of break here, he did not say that it is the RU basketball fans being passionate and dedicated, he said
the RU community.... if he had said the basketball fans.......well

It's a feel good letter meant to get RU fans on board with his hire, if they had other choices they wanted as the RU MBB HC before he was hired.
That's the way I see it [thumb2]

lol. Just be happy we got anything.

Pikiell has always taken over a program and built it from the ground up. I am not sure if he always wanted to be here, but jesus christ. Lol.

Yes, he along with Ash and Hobbs get it. Finally. It's only taken forever at Rutgers to turn the page on HOW NOT TO RUN AN ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT. I wish Pikiell and Ash all the best. And I wish Hobbs the continued success in raising the necessary funds to compete on an even playing field in the B1G.

We have had WAY too many people posing as basketball coaches who have done nothing, but bring negativity and bad press to our university athletic program--I DO NOT see that type of thing happening with our new coach.

Seriously, people--what do you expect? "I have come to this downtrodden program at the only state university that does not bear the state name, and with good reason, since it is a state full of mosquitoes and corruption, a standing joke. Rutgers has earned an evil reputation the past few years, but it is still a step up from Stony Brook. I intend to bring in some talent, achieve a fair record and move on as soon as possible to another P5 school, and I won't be all that choosy about which one, because it will still be a step up from Rutgers". Is that what you want to hear, GRF? The message is positive and full of hyperbole just like a pep rally is. GRF, know you were not in favor of the hire, but are you that cynical and jaded? Cannot remember at this late date who you were pushing, but
what do you want to do? Root secretly for him to fail so you can say I told you so, next time listen to me, just me, or accept that the decision has been made and root for the team wholeheartedly. I was hoping for Bobby Hurley, but we got the best guy we could get. Deal with it and stop carping.

Attendance would say the fan base has dwindled down to a couple thousand season ticket holders .Without talented players passion isn't at the top of the wish list.

I am excited that we got a coach that wants to be here and is excited. And I am sure that Calhoun told him what a great home atmosphere we can have at RU.

This was a great letter. Jordan had no passion. Rice had too much passion but you could see it in his pressers how badly he wanted to win for the fans...fans mattered. Hill had no passion and couldnt care less. Gary Waters had passion and the RAC rocked with him most of the time.

Pickiell reaching out is something thats needed. He needs to create some energy and excitement and get the fans interested again. Cannot fault him all here so not getting why Green is being so negative here
