Nice win for a “gutted” program

Exactly this

You get the two road games you suddenly have ALOT of juice going into MSG against Sparty

If we get these next two that place will be ELECTRIC
Q: How do you define "soft" or "fair weather" fan?

A: "If we win the next two on the road, you have my attention."

The "fans" criticizing the team with no Dylan Harper for essentially 3 games is what's baffling to me. Any credible program that goes 3 games without their best player is going 0-3 in the B1G, no questions asked.....if that player is an expected Top 3 pick in the draft, it is a lock for 0-3.

The same fans now only want to see winning the next 2 road games, when Nebraska has won 20 straight home games, is another level of illogical thinking.

You'd have to be blind or something to not acknowledge a solid effort, irregardless of UCLA struggling or not. But there are just RU fans who are trained to think the worse and will always be miserable people in general.

If the roster can start 4 freshman against any UCLA roster and win, I'd like to think that means RU has something to build upon. Just because it doesn't immediately happen in the 1st half of Nebraska, the same fans will be back to whining and crying again.....Onto Nebraska!!

As in many previous seasons, there is a good chance we will need Derkack to contribute something to get a win. Hopefully the message is received and he reins it in. Derkack has some good points to his game, too.
Guys don’t tend to rein it in here. Derkack, Somerville, JMike tend to do whatever they please on the court. Surprised there’s finally been some recognition by the coaching staff.

Big win for the team, but let’s settle down a bit before taking a victory lap.

Things that are true tonight:

1. Big win for the team
2. I believe they found a bit more TEAM today, ball movement looked much better IMO.
3. UCLA is a walking shit show right now
4. @Neb, @PSU, vs MSU, @Northwestern. (Need to go 3-1 minimum)

There are opportunities in front of this team to spin zone the season (close losses and no Harper).

Make no mistake about it, we’re in put up or shut up mode right now. There’s the talent on the roster to do it, but not going to be easy.

Lol
Talk about a miserable human.
How dare fans who like winning have notions of doing so at Nebraska!
Lying about this entire board not realizing the value of Dylan and how his inability to contribute killed us, then more BS about not appreciating our physical effort tonight.

It wasn’t that we went 0-3.

It was HOW we went 0-3.

There is no excuse for how we played in those games, or how the staff coached….regardless of whether Dylan was playing or at full strength.

Another fan who calls out our fan base with regularity

That’s fine..but don’t claim you don’t like “calling out fans after wins”..yet you did just that to me and him. Called us out personally with insults after a win.

All good, no harm..but just wanted to make you aware of the hypocrisy here, Zap.

Great win, hope the team can hit their stride from here on out. But not sure a single home court win against a struggling team means people were previously overreacting

Hope the move to a shorter rotation continues to pay off though — nice for the group to get a little confidence back
People like you were overreacting and you had the gall to dismiss the absence of Dylan the last 3 games. You chastised a poster who said let’s get Dylan healthy and we can go on a run. Well at least tonight the Op’s thread was 1000% correct.
Maybe it was your frustration speaking as you claim to be a huge diehard but man you do not post like one. You are never as bad as you play and never as good as you play. There is another layer and you swept it under the rug . Receipts.

again..you’re talking about the team. My post is about the “program” which was rendered dead by many on Thursday. There’s a difference between the two - but tonight’s game at the RAC put to rest, in my opinion, the program is dead.

The team? Sure, we’ll see where they are at in the next few games.
The program perception and this years team results are interconnected. Given the visibility of this years team, the success of the team will have a direct impact on the trajectory of the program. If we are historically bad in consideration of having two lottery picks on the team the program is for all intents and purposes gutted.

We will be perceived as joke and it will be almost impossible to recruit.

@mikemarc1 or Mrs Pikiell…whoever you are

This could be your best post ever on this site and that is saying a lot considering your endless word threads.

The program and this years team are not mutually exclusive. Given the visibility of this years team, the success of the team will have a direct impact on the trajectory of the program. No we won’t lol

Can you make a more stupid post ? Don’t come to Rutgers because they just got the Number 1 and 3 players drafted in the NBA. No player would want that . Lol.
By the way the 3 west coast kids and Ware all are signed and sealed. They all look like players not people coming to a gutted program . Sometimes you just wonder how posts are made.

Agree..another head scratching post. Pikiell haters are out tonight!!

Any HS kid who watched this game tonight..our program certainly didn’t look like “a joke”

If you think Rutgers having two lottery picks on a team and playing .500 basketball (maybe), losing to Princeton on a neutral floor, and losing to kennesaw state isn’t a result that’s going to negatively impact the program….lets agree to disagree.

I guess we should all just blindly follow Pike…he’s obviously got it under control.

Not sure what you’re trying to dunk on me for. It’s one win. I acknowledged getting Dylan back healthy would help the team — that’s obvious.

A home win against a UCLA team that’s lost 4 in a row doesn’t exactly convince me we’re capable of making a real run. But as I’ve previously said, would LOVE to be wrong. Cutting down the rotation and placing more of an emphasis on D is a step in the right direction. Team still needs to prove they’re capable of winning on the road, here’s to hoping they can

I started this thread..not because I think this game proves we can go on a long run. I think the next 3 will make or break this team..

I started this thread because I think tonight proved our program is fine, not “gutted” as many here said about the program on Thursday.

There’s a difference, again, between team and program. And today may not have proved this years team is in a goood spot - I think it showed our program is still as good as it’s been.

Answer the simple question instead of agreeing to disagree. Do you think when Rutgers 2 draft picks are annnounced as the # 1 and # 3 picks , players around the country thinking of going to the NBA are going to dismiss Rutgers as a destination ?

This team was built around Dylan. When they don’t have him they have very little chance to win. The last few loses weren’t because Pike forgot how to coach… it was because our best player was sick and not himself. Dylan seemed like he’s back to 85-90% . If we get a healthy Dylan, the team will compete with anyone. The hole is very deep but all you can do is play the next game.

agree but if this year’s team fails it’s a brutal blow to the program so they’re intertwined

Valid concern. But
I don’t think a “brutal blow” = our program is “gutted.”

Again, just think alot of posts on Thursday were absolutely over reactions about the current state of the program. Today showed the current state of the program is absolutely fine

Not blindly follow but he is the Rutgers men’s basketball coach for the near to mid future so if you are a fan of Rutgers basketball he is your coach. Also to those who say we will never be able to recruit again I disagree.. we will very likely not be in the running for lottery picks ever again even if Pike made the a deep run this year.. Pike can and will continue to land high three stars and some four stars just like what he has coming in next year. I do agree that there is concern with how he manages the portal and assembles pieces but I think he goes back to his roots starting next year.

Another great post.

It’s funny - those saying we’ll never get high recruits again which means our program will fail.

Well our program was never built on these high recruits. So maybe that’s a blessing we won’t get these top recruits again?? Pike excels with hard working, under the radar players. Those are what built the program.

Ok…if there is a kid who wants to go to a college program for one to two years and win before heading to the NBA, Rutgers would be off the list.

If the kid wants to go to a program that will play .500ish basketball and underachieve but still believes he can make the NBA in 1-2 years Rutgers will be a viable option.

Is that a fair response?

We didn’t make the tournament for 25 years when pikiell took over…

We are nowhere near that point yet, our program isn’t “gutted” and won’t be “gutted” with a bad season.

Can you please define a gutted program? What has to happen?

I wasn’t the one who used originally used that term. So probably better to ask that poster what it means..

As far as Rutgers - I’ve seen the program “gutted”. Coaches getting fired for scandals, players turning on each other, 8 win seasons, 50 point blowouts. Half full RAC. Empty student section, very few national tv slots. That to me is the definition of a gutted program.

3 years without an ncaa tournament bid? Nowhere near “gutted”.

You are trying real hard to sound ridiculous. Kids buy into a coach. You may not have bought in but plenty of good basketball players are willing to play for Pike. Does he need to improve roster management? 100% but stop selling this ridiculous idea that no one is going to come here to play for him. It’s just not real.

How can you like a post that sez its illogical to think we can win our next two games?

I don’t care where they are
Fair enough on that point. I honed in on the comments about not having Dylan for the three losses and starting four freshman and beating UCLA has a building point. To you point I am an optimist and actually think we can win.
In Nebraska.
