Districts are over. Any big upsets?

Big match was O'Malley over Foca 8-1.

Girl took 2nd at 113 in District 14. Senior Rebecca Pizuto from Brearly. Lost 4-1 in District Final.

Regionals are up.

O'Malley was very impressive. He is a Drexel commit and ranked #10 in the country. His older brother wrestles at Heavy for Drexel. He beat Foca of Bergen Catholic (Iowa State commit) who was ranked #4 in the country. Those 2 will likely meet in the Region 2 final and probably in the state final.

Foca and O'Malley wrestled earlier at Super32 with Foca winning. It is going to be an exciting series between these two.

I attended district 29. No huge surprises. My two Atlantic City guys advanced (to some that was a surprise, I guess).

Quinn Kinner, brandishing his Ohio State t-shirt, put on his usual take-down clinic. He seems like a good kid, always at matside for his teammates' matches.

The guys at the front desk (Kingsway, Gloucester County) said they'd let me in for free on account of my Rutgers sweatshirt, so there's that...

I love the fact that RU Wrestling is held in such high regard in a wrestling talent rich area like South Jersey. Wrestling is definitely king down in South Jersey (Paulsboro, Collingswood, Camden Catholic, most of Gloucester County).

Returning state placewinner, defending region champion and top-seeded Zach DelVecchio of South Plainfield withdrew from the Region 4 wrestling tournament for health reasons Wednesday according to mycentraljersey.com report.

DelVecchio, a junior with a 35-0 record, withdrew from the tournament after being diagnosed with with mononucleosis and an enlarged spleen according to the report, which cited confirmation by South Plainfield head coach Bill Pavlak.

Would love to get Raimo too. Teched his way through and only a jr. Maybe there's time to flip

I was talking to NJcom wrestling writer Pat Lanni, at yesterday's Region 3, and he said that Raimo's commitment to Arizona St isn't that firm. Not sure if we (RU) is in the mix, but there seems to be a chance.
At 285, Joe Andes from my HS Alma Mater, Hackettstown, has pinned all his opponents in both the Districts and Regions, all but 1 in the first period..
At 145, Hackettstown Alex Carida is looking very good, beat Tavoso of Delbarton. He's ranked 2nd in state, behind Angelo of BC , I think.

Would love to see Raimo here with Suriano, seems like a jersey kid.
Carida is very good, had a scare in prequarters got put to his back ended up winning 12-9. Angelo is 52 not 45.
Heard rumor that tavosos father has his own jet, flys in Jordan Burroughs for privates !! Delbarton$$ might be true lol
