Not One Washington O Lineman wearing a knee brace

The Alabama lineman (who was wearing a brace) looked like he got hurt on the last play of the game.

Probably optional.
Its usually coaches that make OL wear those things.
I dont even know if they work
Plus Wash probably has depth

Of course it’ would be optional at Washington.
Obviously the consensus is they work since seemingly every college lineman in the country wears them.other than Washington

Consensus was you had to wear knee and hip pads lol,
I never worse braces but I could see where OL need them since they are most injured group since their own teammates roll-up on them from behind.
But there are some players who feel they are more dangerous because they limit mobility and range of motion. NFL guys dont seem to care for them and you would think they would seeing how injured they get

"...just about every Division I team in the country now requires its linemen to wear knee braces in practice, if not in games, even if those players have never had a knee injury.

“It’s true; the participation rate is near 100 percent,” said Brian Pietrosimone, an assistant professor of exercise and sports science at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill who has studied prophylactic bracing at length.

“But,” he added, “they’re using these things without much evidence to support that it works. In fact, the evidence is troublingly inconclusive.”

Colleges Swear by Football Knee Braces. Not All Players and Experts Do.

Big Time old school.
Perhaps the only college O line in the country minus knee braces

Climbing those coconut palm trees in their bare feet when young certainly builds great quads , hamstrings and powerful hips.

Neck roll helped me when I switched from corner to safety senior year.
Much more involved in the run game straight on without the angle.
In those days we were taught face mask in the chest and drive the top of your helmet into the chin

This was mentioned in an Athletic article talking to head coaches and assistants about the Michigan Washington game.

It’s paywall but here’s the excerpt.

From the article:

The other thing I laugh at is, they’re one of the only O-lines along with Oregon State who don’t wear knee braces, and those are the two best offensive lines in the conference,” said one head coach. “I wonder if there’s something to this? These guys are athletic and powerful and can really move.”

How many of those O line guys at Oregon and Washington are Pacific Islander ancestry ? I got laughed at several years ago hinting at recruiting a guy from Hawaii ( QB’s / Linemen) realize cost involved bur now with West Coast teams ….eh it ain’t that far fetched…. plenty of schools go there even if It’s doubtful. I believe there is a curiosity factor and we did have a guy years ago ( Oline) …oh yeah …they do produce QB’s.
