Note To Pike: Tell Johnson To Stop Setting Screens

Johnson keeps getting called for moving screens? ...seems like every game.

Either stop setting screens or have him work on the technique that will allow him to be in the game longer.

I don't agree at all. You watch enough of these games and that call rarely gets called on the opposing team's best player.

As we continue to establish ourselves as a good team you'll see this call less and less against us. Mark my words.

Myles coming down to earth today. Playing terribly - way out on the three point line letting Giorgio get a wide open layup

I hear you but hard to say it's his worst game when he's played about 3 minutes. I agree that that third foul was terrible. The first two are questionable and would have never been called on another team's top player.
His 2nd fould was about as blatant a foul as you'll see. Not sure you're referencing the right ones.

I'm pissed right now...so I'll try to be civil: 2 of Johnson's 4 fouls were screens: S T O P!!!

It’s not rocket science. Those two fouls on screens are just senseless. No need for it.

It is a big part of our offense. This call goes on every game against every team in college basketball. Myles must get set and not move and our guards need to make sure he is set.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Hard fought game in it until the end. The Hoosiers are next and they look tough time to rest and get ready.

It's a point of emphasis for the refs this year. Both teams got hit with it today. That one on Myles late in the game was really close. I agree, the guards have wait, maybe a second longer so it's not always the Bigs fault. Its timing for both players.

Lol ... even the announcer said the second one was a rough call. Stop it. Watch more basketball.

And to be clear it's like holding in football. Nobody is saying that you can't make the argument it's actually a foul. I'm referencing how it doesn't get called against other teams big men all the time. You want to talk about a legit screen call talk about the one they called on them. That was legit. The second one on Miles was ticky-tack. Wisconsin sets about 15 of those a game and they call about one or two on them. It's all about respect.

A legit foul call is his third foul where he swiped at the guy. That was just stupid.

Actually the announcer said that the referees have NOT made it a point of emphasis this year. You are thinking of a couple of years ago when it was an emphasis. They have slowed down on calling those. Which is why the two on myles are so troubling and perplexing.

Myles has the reputation going back to last year, sorry he is going to get called for it. The refs were not responsible for foul #3 which kept him out for almost 10 minutes in the half

By all accounts Myles is exceptionally bright.

What are the benefits of one screen with the potential for a low IQ ref to call it a foul...vs not setting the screen or letting someone do it, staying on the court, getting 10 plus rebounds (believe Johnson got a couple), blocking a few shots and he's shooting over .70% from the floor. His NOT being on the court along with the missed FT's is why we lost.

As for watching more B-ball, I was there when Lloyd / Valvano made Rutgers relevant the first time. I watched in horror when we made it to the final four and Ricky Green et al ate our lunch.

Frustrating loss...but I'm hoping for a bounce back win against whomever we play next...

FIG....lets just take the OP's. Stop setting all screens...lol.

What I honestly don't know is if there is a specific spot on the court Myles is instructed to set the screen at? Is it really supposed to be a timing thing or is Myles supposed to screen the defender and Jacob is to wait until the screener stops

How many fouls did Myles get in this game (4)? How many were called because of sceens (2)?

Is this the first time Myles has been called for moving screens? What is Pike/Johnson going to do about it?
Perhaps the play needs revision...?

MO

MO......you want Myles setting the screen because you want to drag his 7 foot defender out of the paint.

I'm simply saying that he gets called for this crap a hell of lot. If he's doing something that is ruled a foul: STOP IT.

If it only happened once or twice before I wouldn't have posted it and you wouldn't be defending it.

Pike should watch ALL of Johnson's attempted screens. Which ones were successful (what did he do or not do)...which ones were called fouls (what did he do or not do). Then teach / coach Myles to do the former and abandon the latter.

Case solved!

Is it possible that refs are biased or receive perks from some benefactor's of the team?

The way fouls are called reminds me of people who go to an astrologer or palm reader to learn the fate (sheer idiocy).

The screen stuff has to be worked out in practice. Over and over and over, with all the ball handlers, until it's second nature. That one small thing kept Myles riding the pine today instead of rebounding

I am going to say moving pick #1 was called on Myles because he dipped his shoulder in to Mathis's defender. Going to guess Mathis didnt drive early. Not 100% sure if Mathis doesn't deserve some blame.....I went back and rewatched

Moving screen #2 was ticky tack....whimsical. We couldn't afford for that kind of call to be made: so the cost benefit is: DON'T DO IT!
