Note To Pike: Tell Johnson To Stop Setting Screens

Teach guards to wait for screens and how to use them. But, yeah, Myles offense is too good to waste him screening.. possibly drawing foul calls. Both foul calls on screens today we're good calls.. but the first was Mathis' fault. Why risk getting fouls on Myles for guards who don't properly use screens?

Was it a foul? YES
Should it be called in the penultimate (SAT word) possession????? perhaps NOT
That 2nd one was good call and if you slow the video.. the initial screen was probably okay, even with wide base.. but Myles stuck his right leg put just a bit more just as Young had his man moving into him. Pick was fine where he first set it. Ref in background seemed to react to that late adjustment.

My only complaint is that just earlier you had that Illinois big white dude actually blocking players down low in a way that was obvious and would have drawn a flag in a football field for holding.

For a big ten road game, officials were fine.

Is there a rule to prohibit calling this foul? Is it based on the actual physical act or when it was incurred or who performed the act...or where the play is taking place (who is the home team)?

Seems like a lot of variables for a relatively binary choice: foul or no foul.

There's lots of SAT words: so why point to penultimate when the final score was our nadir?

Johnson keeps getting called for moving screens? ...seems like every game.

Either stop setting screens or have him work on the technique that will allow him to be in the game longer.

It is not always his fault. It is our guards fault. They have to wait for him to get set , before making their move. Brandon Knight and Coach have to drill it into our guards as Caleb, Montez, and even Jacob do not wait for him to get set.

It's part of our offense. Myles has to set screens. He simply has to learn to keep his feet together while setting the screen. When his legs are spread the refs will call a foul more often than not.

It shouldn’t be. Miles too valuable to risk setting silly screens.

What I honestly don't know is if there is a specific spot on the court Myles is instructed to set the screen at? Is it really supposed to be a timing thing or is Myles supposed to screen the defender and Jacob is to wait until the screener stops

My guess is Myles is a great target rolling off a screen to the basket.. too fast for most but GS that can stop him. They just need to practice it more at game speed with all the guards. Maybe this is one area where Geo's loss shows up. Both the fouls on screens today had the guard moving his defender into Myles before he could possibly be have set up. That was very clear in the first screen... The second was a closer call.. but Myles did move his right leg into defender after becoming "set"

One small observation. Today was like the 3rd game in a row Carter got passed to making a cut like 15 feet from the basket. Guards shot be hitting a cutting 5 when they are a catch and a step from the hoop. Asking Carter to catch on the move and make 3 dribbles to the basket is not good basketball.

Was listening to tge game on the radio, were these the ones where he sets those top of the key screens where he throws his ass out into the defensive player? Lol.

I don't know what he threw out or took in...all I know is he has to stop doing that, if we're going dancing in March!

Most of the time its not the screener. It's the player with the ball who needs to wait until the screener stops moving to make his move.

I didn't hear anyone complaining when we were running a 4/5 pick and roll with Harper and Myles late in the Penn St. game.

ball screens are too critical a part of our offense to simply not have Myles set screens anymore. Need our guards to be more patient in letting Myles set himself before they make a move and myles to be diligent about remaining set when contacting opposing guards. I didnt think the illegal screen he got called for against Illinois was blatant enough to warrant a foul call in that situation but he has definitely developed a reputation at this point where he is going to be heavily scrutinized by officials
