During RU’s last QB controversy, I was one of the very few that agreed with Flood’s decision to stick with Nova. Primarily because:
a) I try to temper my fan’s tendency to automatically blame everything on the QB and coach (even if I should) and;
b) The drop in talent was so great that sticking with and developing an inconsistent Nova seemed better than dithering between a mediocre QB who could never develop into a high level player and more talented QB that would be robbed of the experience to improve.
This time, the situation seems to be completely reversed, with Flood going with a potentially safer, more stable option rather than a QB with higher potential.
I will root for Laviano to succeed because I want RU to win and, frankly, I can’t make a judgment on who gives the team the best chance to win today. But I don’t think Flood has the room, or the need, to have a long leash with Laviano.
If Laviano shows real growing pains, or more likely, real physical gaps in his game, I don’t know how Flood can stick with him in the same fashion he stuck with Nova.
