By now, I assume everyone has heard Ash's explanation, and has had some time to think about it. So now how do you feel about Ash coaching OSU in their bowl game?

This is so unnecessary and it is clear you have a bias and are looking to stir the pot. Option 2 should have simply bee- I like it ( the counter to option 4), instead it is a less positive I accept it. Just stop it already. The rage and fury that hit this board over the weekend evaporated in a flash and here you are trolling for more. Go away.

He will not be on campus for this big recruiting weekend, Dec 14...That I have a problem with...

Initially I was peeved about his decision to coach in OSU's bowl game.

Now I'm not over my man crush from the presser.

I think I'm gonna wait for some developments before I judge this decision.

AD Hobbs and Coach Ash deftly and adroitly calmed the wildfire. But wildfire should not have been started in the first place. A bad decision from the very beginning. Should really be 100% devoted to RU from day one. Urban will do just fine. RU needs Coach more.

My feeling hasn't changed - I would prefer if he was full time here immediately, but I don't really have a problem with it...I understand why he is doing it. Don't understand all the angst it generated on the forum, though.

I figure, if he is the right guy for the job, any absence or distraction over the next few weeks won't matter much in the long run. And I'm looking at the long view here, as I think we all should be.

Still don't like it. He's never been a head coach before and doesn't realize the amount of effort it's going to take to hire a staff, get organized in his news surroundings, keep current commits committed, go out and get some new commits and then spend time putting together a game plan, attending practices and everything Ohio St is going to ask of him. Some things have to be accomplished in the next three weeks while other things must be accomplished by the next 7 weeks. It's a huge plate to take on in such a short time frame at a crucial time of the year and totally unnecessary, hell even Gerry Dinardo agreed with me.

This is somewhat reminiscent of an event in the 90s, when RU hired a coach with no NJ ties and then the newly-hired coach basically disappeared for about a month. And we all know how that turned out.

Also, both coaches have the letters "A", "S" & "H" in their last names.

He will be at RU most of this week. He will have had a home visit with everyone who is visiting this weekend. He has been working the phones with all the other recruits. Remember, he is only allowed One face to face visit and the dead period starts on Monday am.

This ship has sailed - there is nothing to discuss.[/

It isn't only about recruiting.

Just a question what's he doing this weekend that so important that he can't be here? Could it be Ohio St. stuff. Look I'm just saying it's not an ideal situation for a first time coach not to be here especially with the dead period fast approaching. Our recruiting class is not exactly what you would call stable right now. And we could use some more of them. I know he's calling recruits but it would be nice if he could be here for the big official weekend. RU is where he's going to be feeding his family for the next five years. We just disagree you say it's not a big deal, I think it is. It is part of his responsibility as our new head coach to be here. It just brings up the question, what other things will he be doing at Ohio St. which take away from his responsibilities here.

Hmm... at this point I'd say those who still have a problem with it are in a very small minority.

Exactly what big official weekend are you talking about? Who[please provide names] will be here this week-end that Coach hasn't or will not have already seen in a home visit [doesn't that show even more interest than just meeting at "my place"]. What recruits are being left out to dry by this callous and indifferent coach who would rather help his old team win than do a dog and pony show at his new school?

Well ah.....Did anybody here ever hear the name Kirby Smart? I didn't think so. Well Kirby is the Defensive Coor. at a little school down South, I believe that would be ALABAMA. He just got hired as the new HEAD FOOTBALL COACH at GEORGIA. Guess where Coach Smart is going b to be for the next month? Kirby is fulfilling the commitment to the kids at Bama who are responsible for him getting the Head Coaching position. I realize that people on this board don't value Commitment and Loyalty, but if you are going to rise up the ranks in this profession you surely understand the decision Coach Ash made.

Look I don't think he's a callous and an indifferent coach like you state. I never said that and don't know why you would think I do. Actually I'm quite offended that you would try and insinuate that, that's what I was implying. I think he will be quite good actually. We need an X's and O's disciplinarian who specializes on the defensive side of the ball. Also isn't recruiting just a dog and pony show really, isn't it all a promotional campaign to make your school look better than the others.

I don't think it's a big recruiting weekend....the 3 guys coming in are firmly committed and enrolling early. He is doing home visits in Florida with Sneed and Pollock on Wednesday.
