The Islanders' coach has passed away, probably from dementia.

His team was the last to win 4 straight titles in any sport.

Not Jordan's Bulls.Not Brady's Patriots.Not Jeter's Yankees.

Just the Islanders.

Lost in the finals to a pretty talented team the next year.

Sad to hear, my mom had dementia, she spent the last 2 1/2 years of her life in a dementia unit of a nursing home.

Yes...they were a true Dynasty...winning 4 of 5 sequential appearances in the finals. That 'pretty talented' team, that they lost to in their 5th cup appearance was also designated a Dynasty. Although, that team had not won 4 cups in a row. Not that I have any issue with calling them a Dynasty as well...after all they did however win 5 cups: 4 total in the 80's and a 5th in 1990. I believe only Montreal had 5 sequential cups and they had won 4 sequential in the 70s as well.

The year before the Islanders' first cup they lost in the Semi-finals to TTFNYC (Davidson in goal).

His record as a head coach has to rank as one of the best in NYC history regardless of sport.
