O/T Cespedes to Mets

Excellent. He's a Met. It's a good fit. Now tell him to lay off the high heaters in the Playoffs.

Since 8/1/15: 32 games above.500 when he is in the lineup, 5 games below when he's not.

Yeah but he's not in the lineup more than you'd think. He ain't exactly Cal Ripkin.
Perhaps one should focus more on why he's not in the lineup so much rather than how sucky the team is when he's not playing.
BTW, as a mets-hater I'm frankly surprised that the cheapskates came up with the money to keep him. And make him the second highest paid everyday player.....although he doesn't really play every day.

He'll report to camp right on time, 25 lbs. overweight, with a pulled hammy and a cuban hangin from his mouth !

There's a reason the mets are his fourth team. They really need his bat though....so they sorta had no choice but to pony up. Where did they get the money from ?
And how are they gonna afford to pay their starters in a few years when they're eligible for free agency ?

We've been hearing this "4th team" nonsense since he came to the Mets and it is nonsense.

He's been a great teammate and does everything they have asked. Most exciting Met since Piazza. Glad he's back.

wow, haters are haters. Guy has balled in Queens for a year and a half already but that's not good enough? Mets did a great job keeping it 4 years and Yo makes $27M+ per year - win-win for both sides. If those are Yankee fans complaining, how are those really long-term deals for A-Roid, CC, Ellsbury working out? Now, get a catcher, beef up the bullpen and get some yoga trainers for that pitching staff!

Not arguing the math, it what's implied that I have a problem with.

Why ? What exactly could motivate Oakland, Boston, and Detroit to let such an awesomely unique talent walk out of their towns ? He can hit, field, run the bases......what could be the problem ?

I figured that he would re-sign as soon as Trump won.Remember the rule:No Mets' team has ever finished at .500 or above during the first term of a Democratic President, going 0 for 19.

Totally agree. Guy has proven he can play in NYC.

If the pitchers stay healthy they will compete with the Cubs and the Dodgers and Nationals. If not? They may regret letting Senior Colon go.

Yeah I was a bit perturbed that they let Colon walk away, but was he really worth $12M per year?
I believe he was in the $7.5M range in 2016.
The late season successes of Gsellman and Lugo gave them two extra arms to add to the young studs, so it makes sense.

I agree that the two newbies are special but I think Colon earned every cent for 3 years when all around him was falling apart at times.

He has carried the team and not worried at all about the New York media spotlight. It's a lot of money but not a bunch of years. If the pitching stays healthy, the Mets are World Series contenders.

Mystifying. Last 3 years, 152, 159, 132. And he plays hurt. Anyone who watched saw him repeatedly playing through the leg injury he got last year and still hitting 30+ out. The moments when he doesn't run something out mask to those not paying attention the fact that he's a gamer.

It's his 4th team because as a foriegn player his agent was able to negotiate contracts that protected him from his team having bargaining advantages. As an unrestricted free agent they had to trade him.
Bingo!

Remember that the team holding the contract when it expired would not be able to sign him until May 1 and would not receive a compensatory draft pick if he signed elsewhere.

Great news. Now to trade Bruce and address the catcher position.

Loved Bartolo, but $12M was admittedly steep.

Hopefully Bruce goes for Syndergaard II and 2015 version of D'Arnaud. :(

Wait....so Oakland, Boston, or Detroit couldn't have signed him for 27 million per season instead of trading him ?
