Go away. The guy is a stud who wants to be a Met.Wait....so Oakland, Boston, or Detroit couldn't have signed him for 27 million per season instead of trading him ?

Mystifying. Last 3 years, 152, 159, 132. And he plays hurt. Anyone who watched saw him repeatedly playing through the leg injury he got last year and still hitting 30+ out. The moments when he doesn't run something out mask to those not paying attention the fact that he's a gamer.
Why ? What exactly could motivate Oakland, Boston, and Detroit to let such an awesomely unique talent walk out of their towns ? He can hit, field, run the bases......what could be the problem ?
They're all Yankee fans. They don't matter here in this thread.wow, haters are haters. Guy has balled in Queens for a year and a half already but that's not good enough? Mets did a great job keeping it 4 years and Yo makes $27M+ per year - win-win for both sides. If those are Yankee fans complaining, how are those really long-term deals for A-Roid, CC, Ellsbury working out? Now, get a catcher, beef up the bullpen and get some yoga trainers for that pitching staff!
Detroit let him go because the Mets offered great prospects (including Michael Fulmer, who just won ROY) and because Cespedes had a clause in his contract that required the team to release him (rather than having the option to make a qualifying offer), which effectively would have prevented the Tigers from re-signing him. Their thinking was that they could sign him in the offseason after he was traded (and there was specific talk about that at the time of the trade). Fortunately for the Mets, Cespedes liked them and was willing to change that provision in a way that allowed them to sign him last year.
Lol, Sure you did,it's tough watching the cross town team being relevant, and your team an after thought in the media. Oh wait, I forgot, they traded a possible playoff run, giving up way too soon, for all those studs that will lead them for the next 10 years. Don't hold your breath on that one.Yes, the Mets were one and done, but have made the playoffs 2 years running, something they haven't done in a long time. No reason to think it won't be 3. So glad to see your hate has no off season LMAO!!!!!!!!Uh...you must be a mets fan.
Your team signed him today because he is more valuable to the mets than to other teams and consequently the Amazins were willing to pay him way more than other teams. Where they found the money to pay him though is hard to figure. I liked them better when they were cheapskates.
This was probably more Colon than the Mets. He really wants the Marichal record and there may not be a spot for him in the rotation with the Mets next year. He was fun to watch the past couple years though and the Mets did get their money's worth.Yeah I was a bit perturbed that they let Colon walk away, but was he really worth $12M per year?
I believe he was in the $7.5M range in 2016.
The late season successes of Gsellman and Lugo gave them two extra arms to add to the young studs, so it makes sense.
You do realize who was pitching for SF that evening. Possibly one of the all time great post season pitchers.0-4, with 2 SOs in the must win game in October vs SF

It is as good a deal as you're going to get in a market where silly money is the norm.Great piece of info I saw in NY Times. Cano and Pujols signed their massive 10-year deals when they were 31. Cespedes signed a 4-year deal at 31. Did they overpay about $2-$3 million a year? Probably. But its worth it because they have their pitchers locked up for cheap for the next couple of years. Plus, they kept Yo away from division rivals as well.

Logan Verrett traded to Baltimore for somebody named CASH.
The fund-raising drive to pay for Cespedes begins.
In the wake of the Verrett move, the AP is reporting that Brian Cashman, Yankee GM and Senior VP, is shopping players on the Yankee roster for cash. The AP reports that this is part of the Yankee front office's new approach to manage payroll and develop young talent now that the Yankee payroll no longer far outstrips that of other teams in baseball.Logan Verrett traded to Baltimore for somebody named CASH.

Some Yankee fans think it's OK when they do it, but when the Mets do it,the sky is falling, lol. Didn't think we would have to play this game until April, oh well, Merry Christmas came early for the Mets with the signing. Pretty sure 2 days after the Mets lost in the Wild Card game,Yankee fans were chirping that they were going after Cespedes, they don't need him, they got all those all world players ready to come up this year,BBBBRRRRRRAAAAAHHHH.In the wake of the Verrett move, the AP is reporting that Brian Cashman, Yankee GM and Senior VP, is shopping players on the Yankee roster for cash. Asked to identify other aspects of this new approach, Mr. Cashman said, "Trading old guys for young guys. Drafting better." When asked what experience and past success he has with such an approach, Mr. Cashman pointed to the Yankees success starting in the mid-90s with home grown players. When the AP reporter followed-up by nothing that he was appointed GM only after those players had been drafted, developed and placed on the big-league roster, Mr. Cashman offered the AP reporter a $256 million contract and left the room.
