OC Drew Mehringer Game Week Press Conference - Michigan

It's not a very secretive code. I mean just anout everybody has the decoder key.

My takeaways:

1. The receivers can't get open.
2. We can't get the ball to the receivers.
3. If the receivers get open and we can get the ball to them, they can't catch it.

Other than that, it's really all good news.

Essentially what many of us knew would be the case coming into the season. Can't run a horse race without the horses.

"Looking back on this past weekend, obviously..... Umm... coachspeak, coachspeak, coachspeak.... Umm... coachspeak, coachspeak, coachspeak.... Uhh... coachspeak, coachspeak, coachspeak.... Umm... coachspeak, coachspeak, coachspeak.... Uhh... coachspeak, coachspeak, coachspeak.... 'preciate you guys, man."

Translation: "We are not good enough to compete against OSU. We expected a better showing. We have much to improve on. Hopefully we will improve. But, you know, we are who we are at this point. Got to go now. Michigan looms. Thanks in advance for not beating us up further in your articles."

Where is this improvement that he and Ash keeps talking about at the quarterback position?

You really want them to take a dump on poor CL and make him into a headcase?

We have to play with what we got and hope that they listen, work hard and improve enough to win some games.

Starting to wonder if this OC can get the job done or if he is in over his head.

Seriously. I mean...I didn't expect him to turn Laviano into Cam Newton, but by Week 4, I at least expected him to be at a Jameis Winston level.

Not picking on you, but this message board just seems nuts to me lately. We are 4 weeks into a complete coaching overall, with a team full of un- or under- recruited kids trying to play against OSU and Michigan teams that are made up entirely of not only bluechip recruits, but the bluechip recruits they deemed worthy of joining their programs. Think about that. These teams pass on 4 star recruits.

We are running a brand new offensive scheme. Even if the players are able to run it, that takes more than a spring and summer session to get installed. On any team, you have to expect you will be most of the way through the first year with the new coaching staff before it starts to "click."

Bad question,
But shouldn't even a lousy Flood class be able to compete with the top teams in the Mac.
Toledo, Fleck U and several others would beat us

How is "he doesn't have the talent to run his offense" an acceptable excuse? CHANGE THE OFFENSE if you don't have the talent, run plays that will work while recruiting the talent for your offense so in the future it will work

You need to think back to an e-mail you sent me last spring. This roster has MAJOR talent issues. Combine that with installing a new O, not having the right (or ready) QB to run it, injuries, and there you go.

What offense do you think CL would best in? He's the straw that stirs the drink.

I would argue that he's actually best in a run-first spread attack.

Unfortunately, he's just not getting the job done.

There is no offense that can mask the lack of talent we have when playing OSU.

How about the players that will still be here next season? The hell with them?

You have to think long term here. CL wasn't any good in the pro-set either.

They are showcasing the offense for the future. Not going to change it fur one season.

We weren't winning more than 3 or 4 games REGARDLESS of what O we're running. Why can't people get this through their heads?

You can't begin to judge the offense until 2018 earliest...

Remember 2002..Schiano's 2nd year?...

We lose to Buffa/Nova because we have bad QB play (Cubit doesn't have it...and using walk on Trump just to function)....then we burn Ryan Har;t redshirt at the end of the year because we had to start thinking forward.

Tres Moses gets hurt...so have Freshman .Shaw Tucker and no else...so no one else can get open to catch a pass even if it gets close

Don't even start to talk about how undermanned the OL was....playing TEs on the oline

But a funny thing happened...Ryan hart became a soph...Shawn Tucker becamse a soph....Tres moses gets healthy...and We throw out Brian leonard and Clark harris and Sam Johnson on the field...and all of the sudden...we have an offense that actually functions and goes from scoring 13 ppg to the mid 20s...and 1-11 becomes a competive 5-7

Point it...I don't think we are 1-11....but the similarites are there....

we get Oden experience now...and suffer for it....but we become much more functional on offense in 2017 even with frosh recivers all over the place

and 2018....we see a jump in offense when everyone has a full year under the belt and

Offense is a complete do-over...and it's on the right path already...with recruiting and a couple of pieces here already (Oden, Harris, and one more year of Martin and hopefully Grant)

Practice makes perfect.

Throw timing patterns to covered receivers.. throw to a spot where the receiver knows he has to be.

How many teams have killed us doing that? UNH, Cinci, others...

Get them open with deception and play-action.

If your QB cannot throw the ball.. give another QB a shot.

Excuses? Stop making them.

The issue - obviously - he MAKES those throws over and over again in practice. Receivers also make the plays in practice. The other issue is, well, they don't during games. I'm sure we're going to start to see more of Oden as the year moves along It IS only Game 4 so even I'm not going to get too upset about him still being in there just yet lol!

Speed, and lack thereof, kills.

There was a poster, back before Game 1, who likened our WRs, RB's, LB's, and DB's, to some of the fastest position groups in the conference and/or nation. No lie.

I cannot understand how our returning receivers cannot even catch one pass in an entire game. I know Laviano threw several passes at the feet of our receivers but where are Patton, Agoudosi, Tsimis and Flanagan. These guys were supposed to step it up this season and I really see very little from any of them. It seems like Harris, a redshirt freshman is the only guy getting open. I would think that players with experience should be able to get open once in a while. How hard can that be?

You can play really physical at the line if you're not afraid of getting beat deep.

I will say that I expected more end arounds, trickeration, etc. But then I saw what happens even when we try that against OSU.
