Official ScarletNation Hates College Football Thread

When RU sucks - and I think we can all agree on that, this year - my motivation to watch most other college football games and most bowl games is really low. It just reminds me too much of how disappointed I am in the team. I then tend to watch more pro games. Anyone else feel that way?
Me...when we suck I don't watch BTN or any other college football shows or networks.
When we're good I can't get enough of our helmet spinning around the screen
As for NFL, I only watch the Giants and I don't gamble, so no action = no interest

Seriously? You wouldn't trust NCAA figures? But they're quoted in ESPN, and they would never lie!:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Honestly, the reported numbers look very good, but who the hell knows if they're cooking the books. I don't think teams have to go to the lower level bowls (not sure about that). And if it isn't going to be a net win, why would they?

I love college football. The games today were played by kids who were playing their hearts out. Then I watch the pros and see more talent, but less effort.

I think Nuts has an argument that at 5-7, you haven't "earned" the right to go to a bowl, but where do you draw the line? Hell, we played four of the top eight teams in the nation this year. I think if we had gone 5-7 and gotten a bid, we should be entitled to go. I also think the notion that maybe some kids don't actually want to go, but it sure didn't seem like that today.

And you have to understand that I only get to see a very limited set of games during the year, so I'm not sated like you guys are!

Skillethead, if you enjoy watching all 226 bowl games, GOD BLESS, ENJOY and HAPPY HOLIDAYS! I just posted (my motivation) because originally I saw this thread title and thought it pretty douchey as 75% of the posts on this board were gripes. Then I found it funny because in the meantime I had seen a "list" of the top bowl games from 1-226 on AOL or MSN. I worked backwards and all I could see for a long while were 5-7 and 6-6 teams. I later went to this thread and ironically that lots had posted the prior. Thought it ironic/funny.

You are right in the sense that maybe some of us are lucky to have season tickets or get to many games. I took a lot of cr*p for purchasing-especially for those helping me as I just lost all.
However my answer is that football is pretty much my whole social life for now as well as networking and family.

As of today I feel vindicated and correct. Besides the free July 4th Sayerville fireworks and great show by Glen Burtnick with my RU bud brothers as of today I have not spend any money on entertainment per se (concerts, games, shows) other than Rutgers Football since a year ago today when I went to NYC
(Billy Joel/Rockettes/Mendy's).

I get the same feeling about Christmas. Maybe it's because all of my close relatives are dead, my sister stole/ caused me $250,000 worth of damage and I'm being housed with no money in the bank and my car insurance is a week overdue with possibly no help and I'm out on the streets in 5 months permanently if no job. No concerts or Yankees since a year today (4th of July celebration the exception). Missed Bruce tour.

Bowl games-with the possible exception of the championship and my other alma mater-they games and teams just s*ck!
Geez, Ash! Really sorry to hear all that!

Yes an especially tough year. In the past I had money and could at least enjoy the season by going out shopping or going to a show. Now I'm in a bad motel (not so bad when its 25 degrees out like this past week) with just enough to do my laundry once before the end of the month.

This past year I lost all in storage but was pretty d*mn sure I left my beloved Christmas ornaments and tree at my RU brother biddies house the last game of the 2015 season. That and other stuff seemed to disappear.

At least some good memories when my parents and relatives were alive. I look at it this way-not everyone gets to attend all home game with a great tailgate either as you pointed out today on the boards. Also I'm glad to have had the family thing when I did as some traditions aren't what they used to be (i.e. Halloween, Thanksgiving).

I find the argument that there are too many bowl games to be a head scratcher. Too many for what? I'm guessing the teams involved are glad they are playing. Gives us games to watch we wouldn't have otherwise. Hard to see the downside here.
I think the NFL is suffering from over-exposure. To many games available to be watched each week. There was a time when you could catch 2 games on Sunday. Ans then they added Monday Night Football.. a National game for everyone to watch.

And things were great. You could catch every game available to you and still live like a normal human being.

But now? Too many games, too many hours... yeah, you do not have to watch them.. but just the availability of them makes the rest of the product less dear.. less valuable.

I think the same is true of the bowl games. Great for teams.. great to get the practice time, the experiences.. but overall.. cheapens the "bowl game" brand.

I can understand that argument, but for me, I love seeing two decent college teams go at it.

Too many boring teams too. The spread in college game has really brought pro skill levels down - especially for OL - who cant transition well to pro game. Add in that the NFL hardly practices live anymore. NFL games look more and more like Docker commercial pick-up games.

This articles shows coaches lamenting OL play decline due to spreads.
