OT: 5-star DE Joshua Kaindoh decommits from MD, leaning PSU

I hope so.

I do worry that with the spread becoming more prevalent that 1) defenses are getting better at defending it and 2) the talent to run the spread is getting more spread out leaving us with a talent disadvantage compared with others running the spread.

It was always said that the spread equalizes talent gaps, but if everyone is doing it, and they are doing it with more talent, then we could be in trouble. My gut is always to zig while others zag. Could we be like Iowa or Michigan State or Wisconsin from a talent perspective and be a power team and win?
I get what you are saying. I guess my thought is "getting better against the spread" is still not "overmatching us in the trenches" like we have seen trying to straight up run against them.

I don't know if this is good or bad for us long term, assuming he commits to PSU. On one hand, it keeps MD in our league so to speak. But it just makes PSU better which makes all of our blood boil. Him and Hansard and whomever else they have, it could be scary

I said this before, he is leaning FSU. Mom wants him at UMD, dad and mentor (FSU alum at IMG academy who also played DE) want him at FSU, some family members want him at PSU.

Basically he took his official to FSU in October, and since then he's been cold for UMD. This is just one of those crazy recruitment cycles, but we are in it for 3 five star guys. So we are trying to flip a 5 star from Auburn and looks like that is going to happen, and we are trying to flip a 5 star from OSU, that probably won't happen. It's just the game, can't cry unfair when someone flips our guy while we are flipping others.

I'm confident we'll be in 10-20 national recruiting by end of year. Being a bowl is big. I don't want tough out of conference games until they start meaning we go to college football playoff or not, and that's a long ways away lol.

Maryland is a basketball lacrosse school and may always be. We once we're a basketball school and may be that again soon. Football? Not sure .

We used to be a football school in the 40's, 50's, 70's and 80's.

We have national championships, NFL hall of famers, and the 3rd most conference titles behind only Clemson and FSU when we left the ACC.

We start winning again, it will be a football school again, we easily support the Ravens and Redskins which are 35 miles apart and in the middle is Maryland. The area only supports winners =(

you can't prove anything whereas we could provide a litany of things the coach did wrong as a COACH. He can't coach and he certainly can't delegate so what's he doing right? Signing day isn't here and 3 more are in play with other schools (2 we want badly).

time will tell
He can't delegate now? Last week people wanted the DC's head? Did he not delegate or did he forget how to coach Defense ?
Yes, we know he and his staff made mistakes. It's up to them to fix it. Recruits are in play? No crap and I'm sure we are going after other teams kids. We've lost two kids so far, one is still taking an OV, when we lose a greater number compared to our peers I'll be concerned. To be honest, I don't know why I wasted my time after the he can't coach comment. Guess he licked himself into all those promotions.

Rutgers should one day have players as good as Randy White or Boomer Esiason.
There's no reason to not have great respect for Maryland football.

I agree 100%. Rutgers posters who mock Maryland football or say Maryland is just a basketball school...well I was going to say "must not be aware that college football existed before the turn of the century," but then I realized that the Maryland football has been better than Rutgers this century also.

Yes, because the real competition in the division is the school to the west, not the one to the south. Maryland will always be an also ran in football, it is a basketball school. If the ultimate goal is to be competitive with Maryland we are screwed, say hello to endless 5, 6, and 7 win seasons.

You COMPLETELY missed the point of my post. I'm well aware of who our "competition" is, btw, thanks for the lesson however!

You're welcome. Maybe you can now work to get me banned, weren't you the guy who used to do that to people who disagreed with him?

Me? The guy who got banned because a bunch of posters whined to John because I was spot-on, with every word that came out of my mouth, about Kyle Flood? Nope. And I was being sarcastic, incredibly so, btw. [cheers]

I know your story, I was just having a little fun with you on a rainy Tuesday.

Both are needed and I'm sure getting talent on the roster will bring about winning more.
Also feel a constant winning record will hep recruiting far better than a losing one,
but if you don't have a good recruiter on the staff and/or the HC isn't a good closer that will hurt a school's recruiting effort.

Personally I feel a good recruiter can overcome losing records, but if a school has been a constant conference bottom feeder, it will have to start showing it can win by being competitive in most of its games , to get the talent needed to become a constant winning program with a chance to be a top one.
GS just kept getting coaching assistants and kids psyc
hed about the upward trending of our program yearly until we actually had a legit program...I'm hope HCCA follows the same blueprint...too bad we fell so far behind...if we had kept GS we'd be pretty solid right now..

What I am saying is Len Bias dying, crushed our entire athletic program. It is very easy to rebuild basketball with 1 or 2 guys.

Rebuilding a football program can take decades. We have the talent locally and a fan base who loves football, but it takes a long time to get that in order.

There is no coincidence in Virgnia Tech, Syracuse and Penn State's rise with Maryland's fall. We routinely landed best recruits from NY to Virignia for decades.

I'm not arguing with you at all. You're spot-on re: Terps football.

We are what 10 weeks from signing day and you've already concluded this?
I won't even address the schiano recruiting myths. I'll leave that to others with more patience.

The myth that we went from putting 1 player in the NFL every 5 years to a steady stream with multiple guys going every year? It is an obvious fact that he is a very good recruiter but had limited budget for assistants at RU. How can anyone even rationally argue that fact? Was he a great gameday coach? No, but he made some great decisions on fake punts etc that helped the program. He pulled in some very impressive talent despite being relegated to a conference that had poor bowl connections and to a program with a history of losing. I think Ash is cut from the same mold. He will trend upward, idiots on this board with want him fired just as he is about to break through (GS in 2004, idiots were being ridiculous despite obvious on field improvements).

Perhaps if he "leans" over far enough he will fall down, hit his head, get up and think"Rutgers ? That's where I want to go".("Mayor? That's what I'm going to be".Thank you Trilogy)

Recruiting helps winning.

Its gonna be a long recruiting season so may as well have fun. Agree that without recruiting at a next level we may go no where. This is an important class.

I really don't understand commentary like this from a Rutgers fan.

Hard to imagine about 2 months ago people were saying this could be Franklin's last year.

That was dumb. Three winning seasons in three years. He has more wins his first three years at PSU than harbaugh at Stanford or Dantonio at MSU. PSu was still
recovering from sanctions and did not even have a full roster and little experience.

Would you put Ash on the hotseat next year if he wins less than 8 games?

How is it dumb? Plenty of people were saying it including a lot of PSU fans after they lost to Pitt. It may have not made sense but it was a fact.

So you think Ash should be fired next year if RU wins less than 8 games? Be consistent.

Those were some of the morons that wanted Jay to be coach. Nobody with half a brain or in a position of power was saying it. The people saying it were Joebots and rivals.

It was dumb. 10-2 makes my point.
