OT: ACC & Swofford fixin to get exposed

As do many other weather boards
One would think on a football forum, talking about football would be celebrated

FWIW, I do post on them, but typically not under this SN
Maybe once we're conference mates in 2026, you'll post on them too!
JayDog,

Keep on posting here buddy. Enjoy your passion for your school and your attachment/pride for RU as a NJ resident which says a lot more than NJ residents born and raised cheering for programs like LSU and Bama and shitting on RU.

Besides I can’t wait to see your reaction on here when FSU has to settle for the B12 because of no invites to the P2🙂.

Keep the ACC/Swofford vitriol coming. Most of the RU faithful has no love loss for either.

GO RU

I love college football and honestly believe Rutgers can do not only big, but huge things.

Really hoping the corporate NIL portion of the game takes off; with NYC in our backyard, the opportunities are limitless!

Amended complaint filed and UNC making noise

Old Swoffy’s sweating bullets
Throw in the towel Chad, dad’s about to fall on the sword for you!

The ACC’s house of cards is about to come crashing down

I read the article but saw nothing about "UNC making noise". Is this a friend that told you, wishful thinking or is there an article? Right now, all that I've read, says you're on your own.

I still have a ton of friends in the ACC, especially at NC State, and follow the ACC pretty closely. Swofford has been despised and mocked for decades because of his leadership (although, ha ha, the ACC fans took a year or two off from that to unite behind Swofford and rag on Maryland when they announced their defection). Since Swofford played football and later served as athletic director at North Carolina, and his son is/was an executive at RayCom sports, who always had a sweet deal with the ACC when arrangements like that were common, there was even more grist for the "Hate Swofford" mill.

But nothing was ever done about it. In retrospect I'm surprised it took this long.

Disclaimer: I don' know any of the specifics of this case, and my gut feeling is that if there really was something wrong with how the GOR was implemented, there would have been protests earlier than now. But if enough ACC schools pile on, it isn't going to matter. The only problem for Florida State in that regard is that many ACC schools still love the ACC and will have no place to go if it dies (also a subject I know little about, admittedly).
I don’t think ACC dies. It will still be a conference. It ll just lose its premier schools such as UNC / FSU / Clemson and either Miami or Virginia. . When this occurs it ll poach UConn and maybe Oregon State / Wash St / USF / Tulane.
Not a fair trade for sure but still a viable conference with the remaining remnants.

the UNC making noise aspect was from another article, I will try to find it

Big Ten fans shouldn't really keep bringing up how awful ACC/ESPN are for destroying the Big East purely to get more money.

I heard a little about UNC chatter as well... still pointing towards SEC.

More so stuff like.. doing what's best for UNC.... and some UNC folks being annoyed at what appears to be NSt. Handcuffs.. but thay could mean a little payoff like UCLA to Cal.. not necessarily they go together

Looks like a similar situation like uva / vt had, where the state didn’t want the other school left behind

Didn't the Big East then? Not seeing the differences between the two raids
I don't know any of the background... but unless i missed anything....

The PAC 12 leadership incompetence caused the PAC 12 to fail........ Seems like the ACC was actively trying to pick Big East Schools and existing members were looking for newer partners.

I suspect USC and UCLA..... likewise FSU want out specifically because of 2x more money elsewhere and the conference failing them in their opinion. I don't recall that being the case with the ACC taking Big East Members.
I would compare the ACC raids to Big10 taking Maryland. BIG needed another team... Seems like other ACC schools didn't bite.... Maryland did.

I like realignment chatter. No problem with this.
I do as well....

Rutgers boards are definitely more tolerant....

I just jumped on the Syracuse board specifically to see an ACC viewpoint. They are 100% under the impression that FSU is S.O.L. and are just wasting their money on lawyers and they should just pony up the 570M and leave. They also believe that FSU is so stupid that they will pay 570M + Interest to go get half shares in the BIG10 (Who according to them does not want FSU) for $20M more per year. So pay 570M just to make 200M more over the course of 10 years. No chance at a reduced payment...... and the recent FSU news from yesterday further proves that FSU is panicking.

Alternatively, they expect in the future the BIG and SEC will only have the top 30 brands....... and Purdue/Iowa/Rutgers/MissSt/Vandy will end up in regional conferences after they get kicked out.

Curious JayDog, have you looked at other ACC boards... not sure if all align with Syracuse board.

College football is what happens when your league has toothless referees at the top. Programs get screwed, tax payers get screwed for millions, age-old rivalries are thrown overboard for a paycheck to be replaced by forced rivalries, etc.

I think the ACC office instructed ACC Rivals board admins not to allow FSU posters into ACC school’s discussion threads.

The writing was on the wall with the big east, as they were clearly basketball centric, and with the defections of Miami, Virginia Tech and Boston College, and Mike T not showing a willingness to move forward

They are definitely delusional up in the frozen tundra, I spoke with a few at the basketball game last week, and you would think their education was akin to Harvard, and their athletics program was Alabama and Duke for football and basketball, respectively

This and the FSU board are really the only two I go on, I reckon if you were to go on a Clemson or Carolina board, they would side with FSU, and the bottom feeders like wake and BC would likely side with Syracuse

this is correct

the actually Berkely prof whose analysis fked the PAC still has no regrets for being so wrong. this is 100% on the PAC commish and 2 schools

what they don't get is that the BIG is more than just football. not sure if anyone follows the research consortium and it's happenings but the schools (yes I said schools as much research is shared and streamlined) is doing incredible research on a few cancers that are out of this world and Rutgers is knee deep in it

Swofford propped up Raycom Sports with the Tier II and III revenue that should have gone to ACC members but he somehow created deals with ESPN directly to involve Raycom through sublicensing while the SEC left Raycom in the dust to work directly with Bristol. ESPN and Swofford worked in conjunction to destroy the old Big East by inviting Miami, Va Tech, Cuse and BC to increase ACC markets in the northeast and then siphoned profits to Raycom. Swofford propped up his son’s position at Raycom and ESPN controlled ACC markets with token offerings like a shitty conference network while they doubled down on their college football Crown Jewels (SEC and UT).

All ACC schools bought into the Swofford/ESPN hype while its value diminished amongst peer conferences but did nothing about it even when kept away from the fine print of agreements.

Can’t say I feel bad for any of the parties involved.

Rutgers and former Big East fans to Swofford --- would you like the small violin or the itty bitty violin?

From my independent analysis, I don’t think FSU is going anywhere unless they pay the full exit fee. All the other antics surrounding Swofford don’t really matter. The GOR was signed. I guess FSU figured that it couldn’t hurt to see if they can legally break it. It may get even uglier moving forward.

They’re arguement is laid out pretty basic in the lawsuit - odjectively, fsu messed up by waiting this long and getting fat on past success, while the ACC was beyond corrupt in their fiduciary responsibility

Rumors swirling Acc willing to settle for 200 mil, Noles aiming for 60mil

With the new stuff coming out about Swofford and an August 15th deadline to move conferences looming, I expect them to meet somewhere in the middle before it gets ugly for the league and enters into discovery phase

I actually see it in the ACC’s best interests to come to large settlement with FSU to let them leave.

Yes, taking it the whole way in court could result in a complete win, but a loss means the death of the conference.

A large settlement with FSU doesn’t start a rush for the ACC exits because there aren’t many ACC schools that could justify that kind of payment even if they had the political will to try it, and most wouldn’t be able to sell it to their students or faculty.

A large settlement is what the ACC is looking for....

Anything bewteen 100-200M probably prevents teams from jumping into Big12.. but 3-5 will bolt for the SEC/Big10 before 2030.

Over 200M and I think some teams will choose to wait a few years. FSU will leave soon even if it costs them and arm and a leg.

But what does ESPN do about the extension. That will also impact teams that might consider the Big12 if the settlement is low.

It’s a 1-2 year exit strategy - PE has been vetted since 2022 and is lined up

The ESPN extension is massive, because once FSU leaves, you have to imagine Clemson and UNC will be right there with them, and there’s no way I can see ESPN extending them after that (2027) at any reasonable rate

Swofford was the UNC AD during the creation of the AFAM and fake class scam, before leaving to become the ACC commish where he could further his interests and those of his beloved Heels. Swofford, BTW, was instrumental in the downfall of Jimmy V at NC State. The powerbase of UNC couldn't handle V's success and set to work to oust him. After exhaustive ACC/NCAA investigations, NC State's BB program was blown up over player's selling their tickets and athletic shoes. V resigned as State's AD then as its BB coach.

EDIT: Furthermore.... Swofford infamously showed up at UNC’s hearing before the NCAA's committee on infractions, in a show of support. While they were found guilty of four major infractions, they later skated away, after lawyering up and casting the whole affair as an academic matter, not an athletic matter, so the NCAA had no grounds for penalizing UNC. Sweet move, ay? The Carolina Way. Eff 'em.

Reason # 9000000 to GTFO out the ACC
