I don't know first my regular doctor says vascular then I'm told general is ok,
so what is it to be? It is the kind that the small intestant is pushing through the wall.

Michael Most
- highly recommend - did a spigelian hernia repair on my dad -
uses the DaVinci Robotic system (when appropriate) - really pretty minimally invasive
works out of Morristown Medical Center

spigelian hernia = hernia in the abdominal wall - kind of 2-3 inches lateral of the belly button - and maybe 1-2 inches lower - it is different from a sports hernia ... basically you want to fix this before you have intestines trapped in it - and you want to schedule it & do it on your terms - not on an emergency basis.

Look it up on Angies list ! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:, OR the NJ magazine for best docs, :sunglasses:

You may mean abdominal aortic aneurysm which is a weakness in the wall of the major blood vessel in the abdomen. That needs a vascular surgeon. If so i recommend looking for doctors that do endoAAA repairs.

Stay away from da Vinci and robot surgery

you don't need a vascular surgeon (although I was the Vascular Nurse Manager in the OR with the a fore mentioned Alan Graham and he is excellent I never, ever saw him or any other vascular surgeon on the service fix a hernia).

A general surgeon is really what you need at RWJUH you have

Bertram Chinn
Susannah Wise
Rocco Tutela
Tomer Davidov
Nell Maloney Patel

Thanks, good info and local.

If you actually need a vascular surgeon (and i have no medical background so I can't assist with that), Dr. Niranjan Rao is in New Brunswick and head of St. Peter's Vascular Surgery unit. I've had some interactions with him and very well regarded.

as an OR nurse manager & former director of vascular services I politely disagree.

Oh yeah. Get a recommendation for a surgeon on this board. Good God.

actually, this board, believe it or not, is a wealth of information. People on this board work in many different fields (medicine, mortgages, real estate, finance, law) and are happy to share their knowledge. I've been an OR nurse/surgery center administrator for 35 years, much of it in the New Brunswick area....I'm a great person to answer the OP question.

this is one of my go to places when looking for "must do/see" places when I go on vacation. It seems to me that the members of this board have been to every state in the union and pretty much every country in the world and are happy to share that information so the rest of us can have a great time when traveling.

@NickKnight 1 you are welcome.

absolutely agree with Mrs Screw's comments here, don't shortchange the varied knowledge of this board, other than car advice...its always the accord, even if someone is asking about luxury cars

Dr. Michael Resnikoff out of Morristown. Worked with my mom for years and trained under some greats. Whole-heated recommendation with no reservations. Two of my roommates became doctors and that was very scary to me. Was always an advocate for my mom and fired a couple of doctors. Always remember MD does not stand for medical deity.

Travis Stenroy out of UMDNJ. Believe he worked on gumper just a few weeks ago.

OK I may have been a tad sarcastic, I guess it's a communicable disease on this board.

Thank you for your reply, I called back my regular doctor and it turns out
one of his staff made a mistake it should have been general not vascular
surgeon. By the way my doctor says it is a ventral hernia. Thanks
again. I'll be checking into your suggested list. Contrary to what some
on this board may believe, this board at times can be very helpful like you stated.

Glad you got the 'vascular' question put to rest.
Suggestions - if you have not already, get your primary car physician to provide a recommendation, add that to the list of surgeons that you wish to consider. Check them out & see what your insurance covers & requires you to do (will you need a 2nd opinion? - and even if not mandatory, will they pay for one if you want it?) Go see your choice(s) & ask questions - get them to explain their plan for you - how they would go about doing the procedure, post operative plans (stay over night / same day? - rehab? how long to get back to regular activity, how long til you can drive?)
Ask for their assessment as to when you should have this addressed - next week? in the next three months? Would seem that number one - you want to address this on your terms - with normal pre-operative planning and preparation not on an emergency basis.
Good Luck

Absolutely agree and have said similar in the past. I'd find it hard to believe that any of our own personal networks of friends, family, coworkers, etc..would be as vast, diverse and knowledgeable in so many different things as the hundreds to couple thousand people here perusing the board every day who came from all walks of life and many professions and having many different experiences. To me this board is a great supplemental source to whatever things you find out on your own about whatever subject. I also find the people here are pretty genuine even though most of us have never met each other but we still give our honest opinions about whatever topic.
