Looking to take my young son to a mets game on the highlands ferry . Sounds like a fun time and beats driving from Monmouth county . Would love some feedback . Website makes it sound great .

We've done it twice, and both times we felt the boat ride was the best part of the day. Not knocking the Mets or City Field, but the trip is spectacular. A truly unique view of the city from the East River. The boats are fast and comfortable. Sit up top and in the front if you can. If it gets too cold up there, there are plenty of seats in the cabin below. The marina in Queens is nice, as contrasted with the wierd barge the ferry to the Yankee game docks at. The walk to Citi Field is nicer as well, especially if you have children along. I will never drive to Citi Field again. The trip is pricey, but worth it to us.

If you like water, boats, and baseball, I highly recommend this ferry.

I echo everything jmg75 said. I have to go into NYC on the upper east side twice per year, and I will never go any other way. It helps that I am 5 minutes from the Highlands Ferry. I am lucky to live where I do.

Ferry is awesome. Don't hesitate for a second to take it. As said above, a bit pricey but worth every penny.

I've hopped on at South Street Seaport. Well worth the $. I can get there cheaper and faster via MTA or LIRR but still try to take the boat once a yr. Very relaxing trip.

How does the return schedule work, is it timed to correspond with the end of the game or do they run at set times.

Do you just taxi up to UES from E 35th?

I think the announced departure is one half hour after the game ends, but each time I have gone it was longer. No problem making it to the boat.

No, I usually walk. I go up to 68th and first, and I enjoy the walk. It's a nice neighborhood, with lots of interesting architecture, stores, restaurants, etc. I may use a Citi bike on one of my next trips. The only downside of getting off at 35th is that it is a hike across town to pick up a subway to head further up town.

I know what place you go to based on what you post. I was there yesterday but just looking for a possible new way to go in the future.

Sea Streak is using the smaller boat (1 deck) for Mets game now, not the large 3 deck boat. With the small boat you are jammed in there. Do not like. The 3 deck vessel is a awesome trip the Citi Field.

We need a bigger boat

Yes it's definitely the best part of the day. And you can bring beer aboard and you can buy beer from the boat itself wowowow

What about the tickets for the game ? Do you take their ticket package if buy your own? Pros and cons ?

nTime, how small is this boat? Is there an outside, upper deck? I ask because I am planning a trip for the weekend the Red Sox are in town. The ride, as you know, is much less than spectacular if you can't sit topside. What's the deal?

150 passenger. The boat has a exterior deck. Make sure you get on line early to board. Most people want to sit topside.

Sorry you have to MSKCC, but hopefully it is working for you. I have good reason to be optimistic about my situation, and I hope you do too.

Their ticket/ride packages are a good value. If you like getting better seats, though, you'll need to buy tix elsewhere and pay for the ferry separately. Gets a little expensive, but hey if you're only going once or twice per year, what they hay...

Thats good news

I seem to be Ok just visiting RU....but I actually hate the congestion and level of stress I accrue when I drive into NYC from N Jersey when I visit.....it always sneaks up on me and sorta ruins the trip.(Somehow...I can stand going to Staten Island and taking the ferry though...that has its charm)

I am considering staying in the Sandy Hook/Highlands area on my trips back to NJ and ,,while it seems a tad expensive , the ferry certainly seems like it would take the stress out of heading into NYC.

How far from each stadium does the boat drop you off?
The ferry to Citi Field drops you off at the World's Fair Marina which is probably about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the stadium.

The ferry to the Bronx docks at this funky concrete barge. The walk seems longer to me, with a few more twists and turns, including stairs up and over the rail line.

All in all, I like the Citi Field trip better.

Anybody ever take it to West Point for an Army game? Seems like that would be a awesome way to go to the game.

That is definitely on our list of things to do. Was going to do it this year, but we decided to go up and stay for the whole weekend, as we have never been there.
