Watched Kramer play in the Capital District with the Weedikens & then the Schafer Brewers. They used to play touring pro teams--Elvin Hayes' team, Cazzie Russell's team etc. Kramer was as good as anyone & better than most. The Brewers had Bill Telasky who played at George Washington; Joe Geiger--Xavier; Armand Reo--Notre Dame; Dave Bleau--Cortland; Jim Tadesco-- Union--Phil Schoff--Syracuse; etc.
In the above referenced article, Don Blaha, a teammate of Kramer's at NYU is quoted extensively. Blaha was also the star hurler for the NYU baseball team. He was the starter for the Schenectady Krals against us in an excellent tourney for a pretty good jackpot hosted by Schenectady. They drew us 1st in the tourney & we knocked Blaha out after 2or 3 innings. They brought in Jerry Heisert, a former minor league junkie, & he sure slowed us down. Came down to the 9'th. We were up one run 9-8 or so, two out, they had guys on base & our guy throws a 3-2 belt high fastball right down the middle of the plate. Ump calls it a ball & they beat us in 10. We weren't supposed to win that Tourney. They were, & they did.
Kramer, Bleau, Schoff & I all graduated from college the same year. Rip Barry, you were one of the best.
