I saw this was posted shortly after midnight. This is not how it usually goes down. Odd timing of the year. I’m hoping it’s a prank. Time will tell
Makes no sense to have a Team Captain requesting a transfer when we were poised for a breakout season. There has to be more to this story.
It’s just Rutgers. Par for the course. Gene wants to play in the tourney. Just can’t do it here.
Agreed. But remember the narrative spun here about Ash when Jonah Jackson went into the portal and announced his transfer? Will the same narrative and comments apply to Coach Pikiell?

In my opinion, if we are going to have any sanity with rosters, the transfer portal should be limited to a 7-10 day period immediately following the close of the season. Let players transfer during that window anywhere they wish without penalty, but once the window closes you must wait for the next year. The way it is now you have to keep recruiting your own roster all the time as well as the kids you are trying to bring in.
I like it...but people will still complain that a coach can bolt at any time during the year. This can result in a player being ‘stuck’ and losing a year of eligibility warming the bench for a coach who didn’t recruit them.
And knowing our history with transfers, it's pretty much guaranteed he will play in the tourney.
He is a junior and the team captain. If he transfers, he will have to sit a year which means, he is done with Basketball?

Let's amend to say that there are some rumors about some stuff that are, as of now, entirely unsubstantiated.
I will be beyond shocked if Coach Pike leaves. I have talked to him twice informally and one of the times wasn’t even at a Rutgers event. He absolutely seems to love it here. He came off as someone who knows he is right on the cusp of bringing back the glory days and is beyond excited about the new practice center. And believe me, I am not some guy who hangs out with Brown, Towers,etc. and he knew that. Always thought there was at least a slight possibility Coach Schiano would leave, but don’t see that happening with Coach Pike, regardless of what happens after the trip to Eugene and his family.
There aren't any open jobs. Is he gonna go be an assistant for Juwan Howard?
EDIT: Also his buyout right now is $4 million so if he DID leave maybe we could actually pay for a replacement.

I just was speculating if what was implied (Pike leaving ) was true.
RU4Real's implications in an earlier post in this thread talked about a rumor on twitter about leaving Pike leaving (Rumblings on Twitter that Pikiell is leaving.)
where is he leaving for,there are no jobs open in college currently.
Uconnvicts is the only place I could see him leaving for.

Please, this is Rutgers, if he leaves and owes us $4 Million, that just means his replacement will be getting $1 Million and the school pocketing the rest.
