Another pretty bad boxing decision. While not particularly fan of either I was if anybody pulling for Ward a bit as the American over the Russian; but he didn't deserve that win.

BS decision - kovalev with power punches and ward with pitter patter

Even Max Kellerman had to hide his feelings with a "a reasonable person could have had it either way" - he knew it was a sham

If you don't think this was a close fight then you don't know how to watch boxing. The decision could have gone either way. Kovalev started off great but Ward took the match over in the 7th and never looked back. Sergey was gassed and got worn down by body shots to start the 2nd half. Then he started getting his head snapped back consistently down the stretch. If youre gonna leave it up the judges against a champion like Ward, you cannot finish like that, youve got to dominate.. otherwise anything can happen.

That being said, I personally thought Ward may have possibly taken the match over a round too late. I didnt quite think he would get the decision but im not surprised that he did considering how close the fight was. But to say that Ward didn't deserve the W is extreme. It was an awesome fight and i'd love to see them scrap again.

Kovalev was the Champ. You have to take the belt away from him. He floored Ward early and at that point Ward really needed to put Kovalev down. There are few enough big fights in professional boxing every year and when you have decisions like this it's easy to see why the UFC is knocking out pro boxing.

Lol, and who told you this lie?

UFC ppv numbers dont even come close to boxing numbers. Dana White and his hype antics have you hypntotized. I love how the go-to "boxing is dead" hyperbole gets chanted whenever fans see their guy lose. In fact, controversial decisions on close fought matches end up generating more interest as they usually result in highly anticipated rematches. That and it goes to show how competitive the sport is.

And to your first point, judges tend to take notice when a fighter rallies back from an early knockdown to take control of the fight, as it is extraordinarily difficult to do and is a quality of a champion. There seems to be this weird misconseption among fans that if you get knocked down you automatically lose the fight no matter what unless you knock him down too.

When did Ward take over the fight. Even as he rallied i was insisting to anyone around me that he needed to move his hands and throw more than one punch at a time. Never said it wasnt a fairly close fight. Certain closer than the 116-111 card that Harold Lederman had. What i said was that Ward didnt deserve the nod. And nothing you've said up to and including question my knowledge of the sport; is going to change my opinion. One shared by pretty much everyone in the bar i watched the fight in.

Kovalev won the fight. No doubt.

There are 45 UFC events in a year with 10 programmed as PPV. How many Boxing PPVs are there.....4? 6? The UFC bouts are replayed in Prime Time during the week. There are whole shows dedicated to archived UFC 195, UFC 199, UFC 205 fight cards. They all have great matches containing both men and women. The physical condition of the ordinary UFC fighter is greek adonis and boxers are to often flabby and out of gas. Holyfield should have been a UFC fighter. The "boxing is dead" chant is often repeated by Jim Lampley and Max Kellerman. btw - Lampley is already on record saying that Kovalev won the fight and was robbed.

Who cares? No one's buying UFC PPVs, thats just the facts. I have nothing against the sport, in fact im a pretty big fan. Ive been watching MMA for years, its great. But its just not on Boxings level yet in terms of competitiveness or revenue. You have football players, wrestlers and youtube sensations stepping into the octagon with bareley any training, and are able to compete... this could never happen in any other sport. UFC simply isnt there yet, and I hate when people constantly try to compare it to boxing like this is some ongoing d*ck swinging contest. They are two completely different sports... why is that so hard for people to understand? You do know people could watch them both right? You don't have to pick one.

And btw Lampley is on record saying a number of ridiculous things. I wouldn't exactly use him as a go-to reference.

I never questioned your knowledge of the sport... my entire post wasnt even directed at you. Your opinion is all yours.. It was directed moreso at the people in general acting like it wasn't even close and it was some god awful robbery decision that hurt the sport of boxing or something.... It wasnt. It was a great fight that was very close, and it made us want to see them do it again. Go on youtube and check out the ringside interviews of all different pro boxers/trainers ect. who were at the fight. Plenty of of them scored it a number of different ways, many in favor of Ward or had a draw. Its just one of those matches that plays out like that... it is what it is. All we can hope for is a rematch that gives something more decisive.
