The valet put it somewhere in my car, but don't know where. I assumed it was in the cup holder when I picked the car up, but it wasn't there when I got out. It's a FOB, so you don't actually use it to start the car. Spent an hour looking for it last night. It's Somewhere in the car, because the car starts up. Parked the car in the garage last night.

Thoughts, ideas, suggestions welcome.

One thought I had was to take it for detailing, and hopefully they'll find it.

My guess would be that there is a slot for it in the dashboard as if it were a normal key. Then check above your visors.

What kind of car is it?

Reach in between the the back and the bottom of the seat and feel around. Maybe it slipped out of his pocket and got pushed in there when sitting down. There is a leather backing between the seat back and bottom and will not let things fall through to the floor.

How do you lock it now , w 2nd set ?

I've been hearing about this tile device app to find lost keys ( yes I know doesn't help you now.

The tile is great however you have to replace it about once a year. It connects via Bluetooth with your phone. When it loses contact with your phone it will mark the spot. The most helpful feature is that you can use your phone to make it ring or use the tile to make your phone ring even if the ringer is off.

A lot of garages in NYC put it on or under the mats for the rear seats. Usually while they are sitting in the drivers seat, so check behind the passenger seat side.

This is one place i didn't think to check. Looked for another half hour today. Thx for all the suggestions, folks.

Leave your door open, someone will find the keys for you and drive away searching for the car's owner.

see the thread above..maybe that guy found your key.

this is hilarious.

so you checked your ass, under the mat, in the seat break, and you removed the oil pan

any chance the valet put in glove compartment or in visor? what about your pocket

I still haven't found it. This is so nutty, and has me questioning my self worth. thankfully someone on another board gave me a checklist to go through:

Systematic search close to the driver then reaching further....

Drivers door
Left compartment
Cup holders
Sun visor
Under mat
Under seat
Between seat and center hump
Center console compartment
Center ashtray
Behind center I drive
Behind drivers seat pocket (except 320i without premium package)

Front passenger door
Glove compartment
Under passenger seat
Under mat
Sun visor

Rear floor
Rear door compartments
Rear center ashtray, if equipped
Rear mats
Rear center armrest

Trunk

Tucked in by wipers
Gas flap
Edges of engine compartment
