OT: Can't find my car key

I still haven't found it. This is so nutty, and has me questioning my self worth. thankfully someone on another board gave me a checklist to go through:

Systematic search close to the driver then reaching further....

Drivers door
Left compartment
Cup holders
Sun visor
Under mat
Under seat
Between seat and center hump
Center console compartment
Center ashtray
Behind center I drive
Behind drivers seat pocket (except 320i without premium package)

Front passenger door
Glove compartment
Under passenger seat
Under mat
Sun visor

Rear floor
Rear door compartments
Rear center ashtray, if equipped
Rear mats
Rear center armrest

Trunk

Tucked in by wipers
Gas flap
Edges of engine compartment

Maybe I missed it, but did you contact the valet?

I think you should give Daryl Zero a call.

I would hate to make that phone call... then again, wasting a couple hours of my life searching would suck too.

Al, your list didn't include the fob slot. did you try that?

checked the fob slot, not there. gonna go through the checklist, saturday morning, as i just don't have time during the week.

I love Rutgers Al, all Maryland fans do, but I'm completely baffled by this thread...

edit: Sorry, I didn't see Al's comment where had already checked with the valet boss. Now I get it, but I would guess that the key exited the car with that valet.

Good luck, Al!

for next time.. buy somersetting like TrackR

Is is a bluetooth device you can hang on keychains, stuff in wallets, hang on a dog collar... works with an app on the phone. replaceable batteries last a year.. they say.. others say 3-4 months... no monthly/yearly subscription.. unlike some other similar solutions.. uses a mesh network.. the more popular it becomes the more powerful it is.. they also have electrical outlet units you can assign to rooms for those things that often get lost in carious places in a house.

just watched a couple videos on these units.. I think Tile might be better than TrackR.. both on generation 2... not sure what TILE's pricing model is...ahh.. I see no replaceable battery.. you send in old device nd get discount on replacement... eh.. tile may have longer range.. but trackr may have better software that shows battery level and has replaceable batteries

You're going about this all wrong. First, obtain some hookers and blow. Second, have a groovy three hour and fifty-nine minute orgy inside the car (any longer than that and you'll want to call your doctor, apparently).

You know you've found your keys when somebody yells "ow". Not only will that solve your immediate problem in a fun and productive fashion, it will also put you in a great frame of mind for the PSU game.

This is a good way to mess with someone. Damn Penn State grads.

I am in for $20 with "in the trunk under the jack."

Al, no help now but for future consideration...

1) There are high end retailers who sell a device (chip?) you attach your keys to so if they are lost you will know (works within 50 feet I think).
2) At Wallymart for $12 or so max there R rubber pieces that fight right into the crack between the seats and the center hump. They pretty much block anything from falling through those common cracks. I've lost much in such. A product via "Shark Tank".
3) Amongst other AAA benefits (plus and Premium levels definitely) there is a lost key service that pays up to $100 if you have another copy to make another copy. I was able to get my latest key under the $100 in person (so no copay-I didn't have enough for a key). The bad was it was only one shop in a difficult shop to find in Union.

4) If you have another copy of the key, Home Depot (at least in Bridgewater Promenade store, much of week, has a key guy who can supposedly make a chip (programmable) key for $60. My dealer was much more expensive and when I lost my key for 96 days in the summer of 2014? it cost about $450 at my Toyota Dealer to make a new one (and you will want an extra).

Do not use the car until the battery in the FOB needs to be replaced, I think they are good for around 3-4 years

I am on my second tile. It lasted well over a year and they offered a special discount so the replacement was $15. I do like the option of a replaceable battery but on the other hand you always get the newest gadget.

Finally found it! It became lodged on a platform under the drivers side seat. I only saw it after setting the seat ALL the way back. No idea how it got there, but just happy to be able to drive my car again.

The tiles are a good idea I will look into. Thx to everyone for their feedback!

Glad you found it!!!!! One question though, is the Tile smart enough to say "Al I am lodged on a platform under the drivers side seat.".........

Congrats on finding your key! B1G win that you can celebrate this weekend. So there's that at least.

I just laughed out loud and said "who would have thought of that?". I love how you emphasized "ALL the way back". Isn't that kind of covered in the first page of "How to look under a car seat"? Unfortunately, they don't tell you about "ALL the way forward" unless you buy the second book: "How to thoroughly look under a car seat".

A suburban myth.?My chemistry teacher in high school, John Smith, perfect name indeed , supposedly took a train to Philly from Westfield to watch a game at the Palestra. When he got out of the event he could not find the car that he did not use that day and called Philly's finest to report it stolen.

By chance you didnt find Jimmy Hoffa during the search? Als car could well be Hoffa's final resting place, and thats why no one ever found him.
