Apparently, Adam Rubin of ESPN has reported that Michael Cuddyer is retiring and thus will not collect $12.5M of the last year of his contract.

If true, classy move by Cuddyer as his age and injuries have left him a shell of himself.

I'm sure however that he and the Mets will agree to some type of buyout.

Regardless it opens up money for the Mets to sign / trade to improve further and gets rid of dead weight for the team.

FWIW, I really liked the Neil Walker deal and I'm ok with the Cabrera signing - as I think his offensive stats can improve surrounded by a good lineup in lieu of the Tampa offense last year which was not good.

The Mets have said they're not done so I wonder if they go stronger after Cespedes if he comes down from his 6 year minimum or try to trade for Todd Frazier and move Wright to 1B as rumored.

I thought I saw something that said they reached some sort of financial settlement or buyout. They need another offensive piece but appear to be back in the thrifty mode and won't spend to obtain it. Prices seem high and Heyward deal won't help with the likes of Cespedes who it appears won't even get an offer from the Mets. If they are truly committed to winning and have very cheap and high quality starting pitching don't you spend some money on the other components of the team? I am not into big dollar and long term contract but you have to at least try.

He was useless as a player. Great guy though. Keep him around as a coach if possible.
