How about mentioning all the good BH Sr did for St Ant's for 39 years, yes, 39 years and the kids he got schollys for that may never even have a HS diploma if not for him. How many offer from colleges do you think he turned down to stay there?
How about the thousands of $$$ he got for speaking engagements that went right back to St Ant's. He was a major reason that school was able to stay open for the last 10 years.
And you're going to bash the man because he got emotionally overinvested in games ?

That game was called so poorly and inconsistently that I was left wondering if I knew the rules anymore. What a travesty, though I’m not sure it would have changed the result.
Hurley is an elite coach and his players love him. He was also an assistant coach here and was willing to come here as a HC (even though his years request was excessive). He whines, curses, and cries, and RU would love to have him.
Agreed with all of this. Bob, Danny and Bobby win. And they have done wonders for Jersey City. But to say Bob would clutch his pearls at what Danny is doing is quite ridiculous. What I have heard come out of the Hurleys mouth over the years would make most blush. Especially Mrs Hurley. Hahahaha
In my case she SURELY instigated his reaction to me even though it wasn't me running my mouth while my HS stooge slapped his then #1 in the nation team led by his precious namesake. She didn't like the fact that kids from our school had the audacity to cheer for their team in their gym.
Yea she has the strongest mouth of them all. My sentence structure was a little difficult to follow.
The man did his best to try and demean and embarrass me as a young kid because things didn't work out the way he likes to pretend they always should for him (read that birdcage liner of a book Woj wrote about him for more details. It's a hoot). Consequently I got a poor grade because my assignment was considered incomplete. I couldn't give a rats ass about all the good he did in Jersey City for a private school he could recruit for. Like seriously, the fuzz on a rats anus.
And many said he did alot of cheating to get kids to st
Anthony's . The BS about doing all this for players is BS. Like his son he did it not for the school,not for the players but for himself and his ego. The king died today but it wasn't his fault. It's the refs fault. Mmm who said refs don't matter.

Coach Bob Sr is a class act compared to Danny. Both great coaches in their own right.
Played against Danny in 8th grade and attended Bob Sr. basketball camp in 7th and 8th grades. Almost went to St Anthony’s until I visited school with dad. Nothing to offer academically. Any time you played or were around Danny he was always complaining about something. Thought he was a whiny little biatch. Bob Sr was a hardass but he had my ultimate respect. Bob Jr worked his ass off to become the player he was. Just put his head down and worked.
Some people complain just to complain but there’s a reason the Lakers wanted Danny for their coach. Family knows what winning looks like.

Listen, I’m no softy and I grew up in strict household but have any of you ever listened to the Hurleys talk about Danny’s upbringing. The guy almost killed himself in college because he felt he couldn’t live up to the expectations and demands of his father and the greatness of his brother. And the father and brother admit that it was unfair to Danny. Watch the ESPN show on it. So, yeah, he whines and he’s a baby, but ripping on him for not being one of the greatest college basketball players of all time, or being like his dad, who while an elite HS coach was an MFer as a father, it’s a tough ask.
The big east should suspend him for blaming refs, but they won’t do anything because Dan is good for business. He is everything wrong with college sports and I’m quite sure he has done a lot worse things than Mike Rice

If Danny ever came here, your bet your ass would be a lot of behind-the-scenes action and a sizable war chest, waiting for him upon his arrival on the banks
Not to mention the excitement of him coming here, getting average fans of donate or a handful of all the people to give as well
Agree 100%. Some kid’s can take it. Others can’t for many reasons. He definitely had struggles with the high standards put on him. Danny has done an amazing job in his coaching career from St Benedict’s all the way up.
Mental health is number one and really happy for the kid from Country Village neighborhood success. Keep it going but he was and still is whiny.

Danny knows how to play for the cameras. Some kids are attracted to this persona. It's not much different than coach K (both are very whiny). A little more NY/NJ bravado. Only difference is there are more outlets and much of the information is real time.
You are so right, in my opinion.
When we see that on the other bench, he's "a whiny and nasty disgrace". But when it's our guy, he's "standing up for his players and courageously speaking truth to power." Most of us are guilty to some degree of this hypocrisy...

Agree … and I would not want my kid playing for him, even if he could “take it” as far as the lunatic antics some see, or defend, as motivation. Character does, and should matter.
