Is Baldy on the hot seat? Every time I turn on the Devils they're losing, particularly against good team. Down 3-0 to the Predators as I type. Will Baldy make the new year ?

It's amazing all these years, and the Devils are still the crappiest team when it comes to OT and Shoot Outs.

It's like they cannot figure out what to do to be semi-competitive in OT, and then they have no pure scorers outside of Hall to do anything in the Shoot Out.

Only good thing is if they keep going down the drain I should be able to get tickets dirt cheap.

How long has the theme been lack if scoring? I think Alexander Mogilny was on the roster the last time they had a decent offense.

They did alright with Kovy....

Then the NHL screws the Devils over, and he bails for the KHL.

Some nights I forget which Cory is in net. I keep thinking it's Schwab. They're scoring from the friggin blue line.

Corey is really underperforming. People may think i'm crazy, but I'd trade Corey for a goal scorer. I think Kinkaid is very good goalie that we can roll with.

Corey's cap hit is $6M. Not sure what you'd get back for him. Maybe a couple prospects.

Crazy die hard Devils fan,

This team is just unbearable to watch.
- Agree with Schneider underperforming. Thought the same exact thing they should trade for scorer, now I am thinking better defenseman
- The Green\Severson pairing is horrible, Severson so far has been a disaster on defense. What ever scoring he brings does not outway his defensive zone flaws
- Trapped in their own zone! This team cannot escape danger, you can always feel a goal coming as you watch them run around in their own zone. Defense tries to clear along boards, forwards blindly try to clear middle of ice.
- The defense backs in instead of standing up rushing forwards. Constantly watch the defense back in as forwards come into zone.
- Penalty kill, no pressure on back line. they collapse into a tight box, yet can't clear loose pucks in front of goal
- Up tempo carry puck in offense\no dump and chase was the new coaching staff promise last year. All they do is dump and chase.(guess lack of skilled forwards can be blamed for this)
- God awful bad angle shots on the power play. Both Cammalleri and Palmieri set up on the power play far off angle opposite side of powerplay set-up. When they miss, an do often the puck almost always zips around boards and out of the zone.
- Smith-Pelly Experiment is not working out this year, he takes way to much time off and does not play hard enough in front of the net for his size.
- Zajak not my favorite player and never thought he was a #1 center. He has been the teams best player every night so happy with him(for now  )
- All the Penguins castoffs have done nothing, Wanted them to blow up roster two years ago and start anew. Time to do that now, anyone older then 26 should be available for trade. Bring up Helgeson, Blandisi, Coleman, Quenneville, Pietila and Santini when he is healthy

-- One thing I remember when Shero was hired. My brother said he didn't build the Penguins team that won the cup. While i do like some of his draft choices and the Hall trade, I am still patient with him. As for coach Hynes not too happy with him right now,

I got to see this dabacle live. The main problem is our team outside of Hall is filled with 3rd and 4th liners. Under Lou's watch the drafts were horrendous and most of the young talent drained away. Andy Greene our best defenseman would at best be a good second pairing dman on any other team. We have a team full of spair parts. The only skaters I would keep would be Hall, Zacha, and Severson. Nobody on this team outside of Hall has any type of offensive vision. Nashville has guys buzzing around actually creating scoring chances. This team just lacks talent and basically stinks.

Yeah Kovalchuk and Parise were money in shootouts, it's a bummer they're both gone. Remember Viktor Kozlov in 2005-06? Only reason he was in the lineup was for the shootout. They stuck him on the fourth line, he got like five minutes of ice time, but was almost guaranteed to score in the shootout haha.

That's a ridiculous idea. Kinkaid has only played 51 games, that's not nearly enough to make trading away your world class goalie just because he's had a bad couple of months a sensible move. Kinkaid's career GAA is about a half goal higher than Schneider's GAA as a Devil, so you would need to bring in a 40-goal scorer that can stay healthy all season just to make that trade even make sense on paper.

Even firing Hynes would be ridiculous. I thought it was obvious that they were overperforming earlier in the season when you look at the lack of talent on the roster. You don't fire a coach for having a bad stretch of a couple of weeks during a rebuilding season. The Devils are having the same issue Rutgers football has--firing the coach doesn't change the fact that the roster is devoid of skill.

It's a good thing fans aren't GMs. Fans always have such knee-jerk reactions to temporary tough times.

No they are not going to fire Hynes but that does mean he is doing a good job this year. Talent or not, a lot of his moves and continuous line shuffling has to be questioned.

As for Schneider he has a no trade clause so only way he is going anywhere is if he had enough. He is the Devils most valuable asset and the only player that could bring back worthy NHL ready talent now. No other goalie in the Devils organization is ready to be a everyday goalie, so yes trading him is just a bad idea.

I've never seen a Devils team bleed goals like this one does. Last night's "effort" resembled the end of the Deboer era. Zero forecheck, no sustained pressure, odd man rush after odd man rush allowed, hideous PP and not a single puck battle won. Couple this with the rest of the division on a torrid pace and it could be a long season in Newark. Oh and John Merrill should not see NHL ice again.

Pair everything that has been stated above with the fact that the team has lost any and all fire or toughness. Andy Greene as stated is a nice second or third line defenseman. He is not Captain material and offers no signs of leadership in a tight spot during the game. He is not the guy to light a fire under anyone in the locker room either. No leadership and no signs of resolve or toughness. Hell, I'd even settle for some visible signs of anger from the Devils. Team is pathetic - Scott Stevens would have probably challenged every guy on the team to a fight at this point.

Which is why i wanted Stevens as the coach.

I don't see how anyone that is not on the coaching staff or the roster can accurately evaluate how much of a leader someone is. How can you say he is not the guy to light a fire under anyone in the locker room when you (presumably) have never actually been in a locker room with him? Maybe he is or maybe he isn't, but we as fans really don't know.

Hang on.

The NHL screwed the Devils over, how exactly? Was it by giving back the 1st round pick that they were originally forfeiting?

Uhh. Not quite. Lost a top 10 pick for for the last pick in the first round.

If only they were given the option of forfeiting the #29 pick two years earlier...
I think Lou knew they would be getting the pick back or was at least fighting for it, which is why he didn't give up the pick in 2012. The punishment was ludicrous though. Other teams were giving out similar contracts and the NHL arbitrarily decided that this is where they were drawing the line. Although they were allowed to keep that first round pick, they still had to give up a third round pick and were fined $3 million, which is the maximum fine allowed by the CBA, all for a contract that was never even in effect.

They were given the option. They could have given up the pick any year after the Kovalchuk contract.
