Then there is our defense....
I'm not going to pretend they're a great defense but the refs in the Players Era were way more conservative than what I saw in this game, and likely what Rutgers will see in conference play. Even Pike's best defenses would've been in foul trouble that whole game with how tight they were calling it.

The defense hasn't been suspect just in those games though. Many of the scrub teams had season high totals of some sort at the time against us. Bama scores on everyone, that's not a commentary on the team. A&M doesn't but the what game was called, who knows what could have been. Monmouth still their season high. ND only matched their total against Stonehill, Buffalo, and GTown.
A&M had 31 from the line though and Notre dame had under 70 if not for overtime. Not to mention Allocco going crazy in the last minute . So I think our defense definitely improved in Vegas . Hoping it continues
Maybe this is the wrong approach but I'm not putting much credibility on how the defense played before the Players Era. They still had issues with switches and keeping guys in front of them on the perimeter, but the intensity was night and day. It wouldn't surprise me if they end up ranked in the 60-70 efficiency range when the season's done.
Who knows. ND has had games of 48 and 54 since then. Agree, the A&M game was called weird - oddly they went to the line 40 times against OSU also. I think it improved too, just hard to tell from the results. Lots of pressure on them against OSU.
I think there’s pressure to go 4-1 in the next 5. If that doesn’t happen then I’m concerned
