The long time shortstop for a variety of teams in the 50's,60's,and 70's,passed away on Monday.

He was the first batter at Shea Stadium, leading off for the Pirates that day in 1964.

The thing with NYC stadiums must run in the family as in 2009,his grandson, the Phillies' Jayson Werth, became the first player to hit a homer at both of NYC's new stadiums.

My first little league bat was his autograph bat. RIP
