I send a fair amount of unsolicited emails from my gmail account to individual business addresses (usually as thank you's, or follow ups to an in person or phone conversation), and sometimes get responses, but very often get nothing at all in reply. How certain can I be that my email didn't get caught in the recipients spam filter. The emails are sent to one person at a time, usually are about 5-6 sentences. I don't want the email to be missed as it is important to the relationships so critical to my business, however, I don't want to be annoying by asking why no reply.

Can't think of any way to know for sure. Send thank you notes by mail if it's that important to business. Otherwise, I'd just assume they were received and read. A "thank you" is a reply, not sure I'd expect something back.

There are a number of free web services you can search for that will give you an idea of your spam score.

Send a bcc to other accounts on gmail and maybe a couple more providers to see if the mail gets through.

If you are using a budget shared host for email that can cause a problem if others are spamming. Your servers IP, or your domain could be blacklisted. You can check here

I get a ton of email like most and would not likely respond to a "Thank you for the time" email unless it was something I had an immediate interest in, but I would see it.

maybe if you set up your gmail through outlook you can add a read receipt to each email.

Yeah, that's what I'm figuring... the emails I'm sending dont really warrant a reply. And there's nothing spam-y about them either. Just being paranoid about them getting stuck since they're coming unsolicited from a gmail account.
