No warning at all from this from YouTubeTV. E-mail received at 1:30 a.m. notifying that:

"As of December 17, 2021, end of day Eastern Time, all Disney-owned channels, including ESPN and your local ABC station, are unavailable on YouTube TV. Members will not be able to watch live or local content from Disney and will also lose access to any previous Library recordings from these channels, including 4K content that is available as part of the 4K Plus add-on."

Great timing in the middle of bowl season, and great heads up by Googe/YouTubeTV. Google had a dispute with Roku as well that dragged out past the deadline.

WTF is Google's problem? Do they not make enough money? The consumers lose in these corporate skirmishes.

And Disney too. Seems they did a similar thing with Hulu.

EDIT- at 3:40 p.m. on 12/19, got an e-mail saying deal was reached and all channels and recordings would be restored. Still waiting for mine at 5:33 p.m.

When we got youtube tv in March 2020 it was $49 a month. 5 or 6 months later, without notice, it went to $64, a 31% increase. Corporate America does generally suck.

Not that it matters but they did give a warning. Got email with heads up on 12/13. It's annoying but at least they cut the price by $15 while these channels are removed. Debating whether to upgrade to the Disney bundle to get ESPN+ for $14.

I'm not defending Google or Disney... Both companies are about greed so not sure who is to blame on this one. Google has dealt successfully with similar issues before but the is the biggest one that hasn't been resolved before a contract has expired.

In the past it's been only a short amount of time before a new agreement is reached and channels are brought back. We'll see but I don't see this dragging out for too long as both companies need each other.

It's been out there for a bit. I saw last week that this was a possibility. It's also been on the scroll at times with ESPN trying to get you to call your provider. It was on the screen yesterday for the late bowl game and I only watched that for a bit. It can happen with any content provider and distributor. Sometimes channels go off the air and sometimes they strike a deal in the last hour. That happened with NBC/Comcast and Google.

I can't remember ESPN/Disney owned channels being removed though. Let's see just how much leverage they have. Google has deep pockets too. You can already see Amazon encroaching on the NFL, if other tech players start coming in it will be hard to compete with their money over the long haul. Their revenue is generated in other areas not tied to content specifically.

Luckily, it's not the regular college football season or that would have been an issue for me. Bowl season I watch off and on and not having it is unfortunate but I can deal without it til the end of the season and the bigger games. Hopefully, it'll be resolved by then but if not I'll have to figure something out.

That was always going to be the case. I've said long ago cord cutting isn't really that and it'll be the same as cable eventually. The one place you do save is the equipment and that's the main reason I switched. I wouldn't have minded buying the equipment but that option isn't given to you and you have to pay monthly fees and I've never liked that. DVR serviced is included and unlimited and no boxes, just one time purchase of whatever streaming device and that's it. I prefer that. I'm still happy with my switch. These kind of disputes can happen with any of them whether it's Comcast, Spectrum, Fios, YouTube TV etc...

I've never really done this but the other thing which is nice is that it's easy to turn on and off the service as opposed to cable companies. I know some here have done that. Nice way to save some money if it's a time of year you don't really use it.

I only get YTTV during football season
I'm well accustomed to not having TV most of the time.
As much as I like the bowl games, I won't care that much if I cant see them on YTTV
People will upload recordings of them to Youtube in a day or two

Then why didn't you put it in the Coaching Carousel thread? It's your fault!!! 😂 Seriously, did not see it until the end of the Cure Bowl game last night. No warning or notice that I noticed from Google/YouTubeTV

So $15 deduction and you can get the Disney bundle for $14? Sounds like +1
Not really. Have to switch between apps to change channels, etc.

The losers are the consumers. Two big corporations treating people like pawns in chess.

Sorry my bad lol. It happens, we all got lives so we miss things sometimes.

Hopefully it will get resolved soon, specifically by the bigger bowl games. After that I don't know that I really need any of the Disney channels until next college season. I don't watch NFL or any of the other sports much. ABC is about the only thing maybe and the couple shows I watch there would end up on Hulu so I can get them from there.

YouTube TV allows you to suspend your service for up to 3 months without an issue or paying for that time you're not receiving YTTV. Cable doesn't offer anything close to this.

In the end, all have pluses and minuses and it depends on what you want. I like there is no equipment fees and YTTV travels with you to every market in the country if you move. Also, they reduce your bill such as the case with Disney right now. Comcast still overcharging customers after dropping MSG.

Cord cutting worked ok for me. I was paying $125/month for the "triple play" thing with Verizon. Now I pay $115/month for internet and TV. I lose the phone I never used, but I got the DVR service (extra with Verizon) and the ability to stream to more devices - including my phone wherever I am. I also get to drop the TV service half the year. I can still watch the volcanoes and riots and debates etc on YT. I miss little imo

Funny that the failing model of cable that people “cut” has been essentially replaced by a streaming model that is steadily failing its customers. This new paradigm is slowly, but surely, becoming just as expensive and flawed.

Disney owns Hulu; I use Hulu+ for my live tv and sports.

If you have a more everything plan with Verizon you can get Disney/Hulu/ESPN+ for free. They don’t automatically give it to if you are already on that plan. You have to ask to switch over your “legacy” plan. I was paying them for Disney when I found out.

Hopefully they come to a deal soon.

Plan on making the switch. Can't stand Hulu + Live TV. Last straws were not being able to play it while away and adding mandatory ESPN+ ...right after CFB season when I could have used it.

Oh well, the only thing I will be missing is The Goldbergs. Thank GOD I don't need the tv attached to my hip.

We had the full blown HULU Live for about three years and then all of a sudden the commercials would come on at ear splitting decibels and they couldn’t solve it for us…it was on Apple TV…switched to YTTV and couldn’t be any happier….the ESPN thing shall pass so it’s no biggie for me…but things we like better: Hulu Live would skip at the top of the hour between shows..kinda wonky but whatever…and would occasionally lock up at random for a few seconds (and we have very high speed internet…) YTTV has no issues but the one thing they don’t have is starting a show over if you’re coming on in the middle of it…HULU has that….

But yeah, it’s all become pricey and the difference between cable is shrinking…

Comcast finally comes around and will carry the ACCN.

The two year old ACC Network, will finally be available on Comcast/Xfinity network.

The arrival of the ACC Network is part of a larger overall carriage renewal agreement between telecommunications/entertainment behemoths.

The Walt Disney Co. and Comcast, parent of NBC Universal.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Congress needs to step in and abolish the right of cable companies to terminate services because of fee disputes etc.

Yeah. I got that warning email earlier in this month too. It was out there but still a late surprise.

We have that plan. Been trying for the last hour to log in and watch the bowl game with Western Kentucky, and ESPN plus keeps redirecting me to log into my cable provider. Not all live content seems to be available through ESPN plus, unless you like watching soccer, which seems to be the only thing available right now.

As far as I know things you get on ESPN don’t always end up on ESPN+

Can they both lose?

They only way to win if you're a pawn is to not play.

Pretty sure FiOS does but I'm not 100% sure.

Sorry. It was implied by being Verizon related that you would likely be misled, inconvenienced, and utterly disappointed. Plus doesn’t mean what it used to. I guess it’s like Starbucks Tall.

They gave plenty of warning. An email last week and every time you watched ESPN there would be a “commercial” mentioning it.

As mentioned, I had not received any emails up until 1:30 a.m. this morning. Maybe they went to junk.

Second, I don't watch ESPN regularly. As I mentioned, I saw it at about 11:00 last night while watching a bowl game.

Here we go found a link on it.

Did you put that in the Coaching Carousel thread? 😜
Here is the critical part:

"ESPN+ doesn’t carry a linear feed of ESPN and won’t simulcast most live sports that is airing on the main network. You won’t be able to watch any College Bowls, including the College Football Playoffs, which air on ABC and ESPN. It also doesn’t carry live NBA games that air on ESPN and some NHL games that are only available on the ESPN linear network.

You also won’t be able to stream any College Basketball games that air on ESPN, ESPNU, ACC Network, or SEC Network."

So it’s like B1G +. You don’t get the live feed only additional stuff not on the main channel.

We have tried many of the services. On our FireTv the Hulu interface was awful. DVR forced you to watch commercials. So if you waited a half hour to fast forward through commercials during a game, it didn’t work and you still had to watch the commercials. We are looking into options for bowl games. I may try to cancel YTTV just to register my objection. YTTV has the best interface, but if the channel line up isn’t right, we will move on.

$49.99 or $64.99 a month is still better than the $100-$200 cable companies and satellite companies were charging for similar packages.

I've used YouTubeTV since Jan-Feb 2020. They increased it $15, $50 to $65, around the end of summer last year because they sent an email a month early about the change and added a bunch of the more popular Viacom/Paramount channels. YTTV has everything you need in DVR, Pausing live tv options. YouTubeTV had a couple of close calls with channels being lost but in the end they came to an agreement before the deadline. This is the first loss of channels I've had, but lowering the price is nice offer considering DirecTV never did it when they lost channels over a couple of decades. I think the channel providers are more at fault overvalueing their channels, where the streaming service wants to keep their rates as low as possible for the consumer.

Philo has been a good streaming service for me as well that offered those same Viacom channels before YouTubeTV added them, but they also offer networks like A&E, History, Vice and a few other that YTTV doesn't carry. I'm locked into a $20 per month, raised this year to $25 per month for new customers.

I'm happy with what YTTV offers and this should be a small hiccup, doubt this will last long. YTTV probably has.20-30 million subscribers for their streaming service, Disney will flinch first.
