So I can't say I've watched wrestling since I was a kid but Hogan was always the hero in wrestling circles. I have no idea what he did to upset so many people but I did not have "Hulk Hogan being boo'd out of the building at a WWE show" on my 2025 Bingo card. It does not sound like he was going out to be a "Heel" or wrestling bad guy, actually was trying to promote his new Beer and the fans just unloaded on him

I thought he became a bad guy for a time.
they all do but I don't think that's what this was. From what I've read this was supposed to be a big deal with WWE moving to Netflix and they brought out Hogan to hype up the crowd and promote his new beer they signed a deal together with. Apparently the minute Hogan walked out the whole crowd starting booing him and didn't stop the entire time he was up there. I have no idea there reasons and it was kinda strange to me thus why I posted. I thought Hulk Hogan to wrestling was like Jack Nicholas in golf, people are just excited to see him

Probably a different generation entirely that doesn't know him as well. Who knows? Spanky maybe right too - the beer could totally suck. If they already sampled it...

I knew virtually nothing about WWE or Hulk Hogan but a quick web search showed two reasons why he might be booed.

1. The event was in CA and, apparently according to a couple articles I just read, HH's politics are unpopular with many in CA.
2. He apparently was discovered to have made some fairly racist statements some time ago and so there has been backlash over that.

In any event, I think Netflix, while doing very well at the moment financially, may be guilty of decisions that will be unpopular with much of their US audience (and some decisions that seem unpopular everywhere). An example is cutting shows that are popular because they don't want to pay increasing salaries to show staff (the salaries increase over time). I have been seeing more and more people complain about this, with many saying they've canceled their subscriptions over it. Also the price hikes.

Also their app UI really sucks. For example, they don't give users a means to filter out stuff they don't want cluttering up their list of content (e.g. foreign language stuff or horror genre stuff or whatever people don't like). It'd be mindlessly simple to provide that, but they don't.

The numbers are growing, but they might start losing longer-term customers in increasing numbers over that sort of stuff.

Hard to believe he was booed.
The only way i could see it happening is if the crowd was coached to do so and is part of a bigger plan.
Theres no way a wrestling audience is just going to boo him out of the blue

After reading Mildone’s thoughts…. California being liberal…meh.

Just my opinion

Good point - I never viewed wrestling fans as huge Kamala supporters - could be wrong on that. I also don't think many remember the racist comments from a while back. It is strange, but it's getting national attention, so mission accomplished for the WWE and Netflix.

Upon review it is a little silly. Hulk Hogan apparently publicly announced he gave up drinking in 2023 only to start a beer company in 2024 called "Real American Beer". I gave up the sauce years ago but back in the day I can't imagine if given the choice of a Founders/Dogfishhead or "Hulk Hogan's Great American Beer" that I would put much stock into the latter...

Is this a politics thing? For god's sake this world... just stfu and enjoy life people (the people that boo'd). This coming from someone who DESPISES Trump

He was definitely boo'd though.

I'm not saying the political thing is a good reason to boo him, it's actually not IMO. The racism thing, OTOH, is a perfectly good reason. Racism is moronic, sucks, and should be mocked and booed, etc. So if that is the reason, good job crowd.

Anyway, it's not my thoughts - I just pulled those two possible reasons from articles about it from people who pay waaaaaay more attention to this stuff.

Okay. I have no idea and don't care why it happened (except that I'm good with booing racism, if that was the reason). F racism and racists.
I don’t give a shit what Hulk and countless others both black and white might have said perceived as racist, especially if they’ve apologized for it.
i could ask a 1000 wrestling fans about Hulks comments and 999 wouldn’t be aware of it.
It wouldn’t surprise me if some dumb ass wrestling influencer intent on dividing and sowing resentment wrote something.

I don’t believe the Hulksters heart or spirit is racist in any way

Once again, I merely restated what a couple articles said about the booing.

And let's be real here, nobody here has any way of knowing what's in HH's heart. Or what 1000 of the fans who were at the event and booed him were thinking. What you or I "believe" about it only says something about us, not him or them.

Unlike you, however, I do give a shit about racism and the racist stuff people do or say. I can't say if that was a factor here or not. But I can say that I'm 100% opposed to racism; it's an evil thing and only stupid or evil people (or both) intentionally engage in it. I'm not gonna make excuses for anybody for it.

My dad’s best friend on the Yankees was Elston Howard (look him up if you don’t know him) my mom and Arlene Howard were also great friends.
Two peas in a pod Yogi and Ellie.
Many American League teams had already had African Americans on their rosters helping them tremendously win games, the Yankees were one of the last…both being catchers my dad gladly mentored Ellie into one of the best back stops in the league while cultivating a life long friendship.

One thing,,,,, my dad in his 30s was a faster runner than Ellie, and everyone who knows baseball saw how the speed of the African American players was changing the game with Mays, Aaron and Jackie tearing up the bases.

My dad used to kid Elston, of all the black players we got the only one who can’t run.
I wonder how that would be received today by the racism police.

Or half of the movie Brian Song

Hogan might just be an on-ramp to media narratives involving Linda McMahon, WWE and pending lawfare.
McMahon is nominated to lead Dept of Education
If the timing looks like lawfare then its lawfare

So I don't for one second believe your dad had a racist bone in his body, everything I've ever read and heard about the man was nothing but top class. He was an amazing player and from what I have read and you have described a better person...

But as a black man can I please point out where what you said was flawed? You can call it racism police but the reality is we don't want to be treated any differently than anyone else, when you make the joke "The only Black player who can't run" we understand that it's tongue and cheek and no harm is meant by it, but where we still get irritated is what does him being black have to do with being slow? You said it yourself "Black players are perceived to have certain skills", while that may be true it is racist in nature to joke that a player is faster "because he's black".

Now you are referencing a different time in america and that ABSOLUTELY must be taken into account. People were not aware of how such language and jokes could actually upset others and what it does to the subconscious of america. The critical thing is now, knowing what we know and understanding that yes, people take offense to language like that to recognize it and not repeat it.

First of all, nobody here said teasing about race, if it works both ways, is racism. Your deflection to "racism police" is laughably irrelevant here.

Hogan was ranting about his daughter sleeping with a black man while using the N word a lot in his rant in 2015. Not in some distant past when racism was more culturally tolerated. This wasn't a case of teasing. Or anything like it. It was an overtly racist rant.

What you're doing is trying hard to excuse overt racism that occurred in 2015. Why are you so worried about defending Hogan's racism and so unconcerned with the kid that was the target of his racism?

I mean, slavery occurred between 1619 and 1860, which we can all agree was a long time ago. Are you trying to say that, because it happened so long ago, it was a perfectly okay thing? The old "hey, everybody was hanging slaves back then, what's the big deal" argument?

Again, I don't make excuses for racists and what HH did was racist. You can make all the excuses you want for it, but it's a bad look.

Lol, ignore what he actually said, I believe in his spirit based off of a feeling.

In fairness, i didn’t do my research.
If Hulk EVER used the “N” word or used it multiple times, he deserves what he gets.
I

Have it me, I deserve ire if Hulk used the N word. To hell with him!

Hulk is a great father who made sure his teenage son had a Lambo to drive recklessly…and his son proceeded to cripple someone.

Hogan was basically always a despised figure among the "smart" internet fans. These days that's basically all fans. Hogan is generally reviled in the industry for being an egonmaniac, a shameless liar, and a horrible wrestler to boot.

The young generation today reveres "old timers" from the attitude era like Stone Cold and The Rock.

In addition to what Salvi said, a lot more info has come out in recent years about how he screwed over fellow wrestlers in the 80s and 90s from being promoted and getting better contracts.

Which kind of supports what I posted before - this generation doesn’t know or respect him. Stone Cold and The Rock are probably old school for a certain demographic but not all. Honestly, I’m done with this thread as I don’t give a sh$t about fake wrestling. 😂

I love those two and Dave Bautista also.
John Cena?
Didn’t the Rock have a bit of controversy also, can’t remember off the top of my head

These two posts are correct. Wrestling fans are "smart" about the business now and its become very picky and brutal about who they support. It's also based on regions of the country as certain people are more over in liberal areas but not in conservative areas and vice versa.

Many people are sick of Hogan's ego tripping and how he treated others over the years. The booing by the crowd was not based no his characters and his actions, it's based on how people perceive Hogan as a person. And yes, a California crowd didn't help.

Gotcha. To be fair, I didn't pass that detail in my original post where I was trying to relate what I found with a very quick lookup of what it was all about.

But yeah, the articles I found (a web search on "hulk hogan booed" will bring up a long list of articles) mentioned the N word and the rant about his daughter sleeping with a black man. And a subsequent web search provided even more gory details of HH's recorded rant. I mean, he's welcome to feel how he feels and he apologized for it. But, to my way of thinking, what he did was unarguably racist in the context he did it and indicates, at the very least, an inherent racist attitude.

I see you guys responded with some laughing emojis @bac2therac and @BIGRUBIGDBIGredmachine. Now that you know what he did, you guys still think what HH did was funny? Is he your hero?

Hogan definitely was an awful wrestler, even for the standards of the 80s. I watched some of the NFLX WWE debut and caught when Hogan came out. Honestly, it didn't sound like he was being booed. Not sure if production did something with the audio.

Hogan refusing to put over Sting clean at Starrcade was the beginning of the end for WCW.
