OT: Hunter Dickinson gonna get PAID

I think if you look at the stats when Cliff is in the game vs out of the game you realize the impact he has. Whenever Cliff leaves it will not be long until people realize how much he makes us better.
I agree Cliff has been very important to how Rutgers has played, and they are much better when he is on the court, but Hunter Dickenson has also pretty much always had his way with Cliff when they have power for the reasons I mentioned. In the Big 10 Tournament game that Hunter’s teammates didn’t show up for, Hunter had 24 points to cliff’s 6.

Those schools can really outbid Michigan on NIL?

Wonder if it's more him being fed up with Michigan/Howard
I agree on the 2nd part. Howard is a moron and Michigan fans are starting to get sick of his antics. He might want to follow his kid to the NBA because if he doesn't, I don't see him being employed as Michigan's men's basketball HC for much longer.

Hunter scored 9 of those 24 points when Cliff was out AND Michigan only scored 50 tota points

Fair point but Hunter and Cliff aren't in the same boat since Cliff has the student visa restrictions
Cliff has to decide if he wants to go to an SEC school to get paid where the rule of law doesn’t really matter.

I’d be willing to bet that after most schools get burned paying top dollar for marginal contributions and ho-hum ROI, this type of ridiculous compensation won’t affect more than a handful of players. College hoops will be fine.
I agree. I think we’re still in the Wild West now, but there will be a reset based on ROI results.

Played high school ball in DMV area
Yeah, he starred at De Matha. We now know (from Hunter himself, who has been talking about it non-stop for three years) that he was interested in playing for Maryland. For some reason Turgeon didn't think he could land him (Maryland rarely gets De Matha guys), and didn't try very hard, which we now know Hunter took badly. He said he used to go up the street to watch Maryland games even after he knew he wasn't going there. All of this can be found online.

It was a huge miss for Turgeon. I remember when Turge signed the Mitchell brothers (both bigs), and Hunter specifically mentioning later that when the brothers were signed was when he knew for sure that there was no interest at all anymore.

I wonder if his on-court demeanor would have been the same if playing for a different coach...

Maybe he just want to play near home. You really think MD or Georgetown has deeper pockets than Michigan?
Do you feel the same way if Geo Baker played his final season for Boston College?

Part of the allure of college sports was associating a player with a school for four years. Numerous factors have chipped away at that over the years and this is another one. Dickinson should be allowed to do what he wants but it makes the sport less interesting when the top players are hired guns. Same goes for one and done. Duke was more interesting with JJ Redick than Zion Williamson. It is what it is.

Yes. If BC had more NIL then that would be a different story (maybe they do, I don’t know). My point is Michigan has plenty of NIL. They are not losing him because of NIL like some are crying about.

Well this is the problem. Outside of a handful of teams (mostly in the SEC, and Miami) nobody really has a super robust basketball NIL machine going.

Michigan really is poor in NIL relative to their brand name and recent success.

If you are Hunter Dickinson you probably aren’t playing in the NBA. Your highest value as a basketball player is right now.

This may seem on the surface good news to get him out of the conference, but this is a guy Cliff has competed against for 2 years. If I am Cliff and I see my peer get 7 figured I am going to want the same.
Cliff can’t take nil due to his visa status

Maybe for you.
But certainly not all.

As I said in another thread, I can't wait to see all the empty seats and the ghost town this board will become in 2 years. Since so many won't have interest with Bailey and Harper
(hopefully) on the team.

Probably true. The guy from Purdue may also be in the same boat.

Disagree. Michigan might be top 10 in the country with NIL $$. Maybe they don’t want to spend it on Hunter.
Maybe so. But I don’t think they are in a great position to run off this guy. Maybe they are changing their philosophy- either way it would be great not to play against him anymore.

Everyone is losing their mind about NIL. I highly doubt this transfer is a Michigan NIL issue. Even so, who cares. When Michigan gets worse, I call that a win. Rutgers has yet to lose a player to NIL. That’s all I care about.

I feel the same way about NIL. It’s new so everyone, donors etc are throwing money around thinking they can buy their team wins fast. Well newsflash, only 1 team wins the conference and 1 team wins the national championship each year, so the naturally there will be plenty of donors that see no ROI and after a while scale it back. Right now they’re being sold a dream, that ant possibly be the reality for all of them. It will naturally regress to the mean and sort it self out.

He’s probably getting 7 digits. Wouldn’t be shocked if it ended up being Arkansas with how they’re throwing around money.
Summers Eve would be a fitting product for him to sponsor.

Good for him. He has an opportunity to earn life changing money. Proud of him for taking advantage of it. NIL is the best thing that’s happened to major college sports in our lifetimes. Fans like a status of the game predicated on restricting freedom. The way it’s going to change and look like in the future is the way it is supposed to be. Let freedom ring.

I saw this rumored on another board and I said "there's no way".....welcome to the bridge folks.

I have considered the bridge, as a place where a kid has the most value to a college football or basketball program and can cash in at this level BUT, probably may not ever see this much guaranteed money at the next level of professional sports.

If Dickinson isn't a NBA lock, he has max value for a college team right now. He cashes in, graduating and then if he can play professionally, so be it.

The days of running out the door to the NBA or NBA G League, now depends on "G League price points"......the NBA will now have to have their CBA, raise the pay scale, otherwise the G League will lose players who will stay in college more.

If it couldn't get any more insane, welcome to right now.
The law of unintended consequences in play here. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction

What is Maryland's NIL pool of money like. Is the Under Armour guy very involved? Thought that the company had hit the skids?
I don’t really follow it closely. I do know that Kevin Plank is always around still, and getting VIP treatment. And that Jahmir Young is coming back in large part because he has a sweet NIL deal. But that’s about all I know…

Hey dc. Expanding here, our NIL is fine but far from what it needs to be to compete with top teams and, say, the SEC.

Jahmir apparently took a little less to stay home, but there’s a Turtle NIL collective set up that helped keep him in College Park. Most top transfers will be over our “budget”.

What is the process of getting him to be a US citizen?
Multiple steps and a pretty long time. In the interim, if/when his college playing days are over and he's no longer a student, his foreign student visa will expire and his ability to stay in the US will require getting some type of work visa (seemingly more readily available if facilitated by playing professional basketball). Then apply for permanent resident status (green card) which could take a few years to be granted, then usually at least 3-5 more years of being a green card holder before becoming a naturalized citizen.
