During winter, I have a bag that I carry in the car packed with all the warm stuff I might need in an emergency. Cold weather gear, blanket, boots, etc. Along with multiple layers. Took it out of the car 2 weeks ago, but didn't unpack it just in case. Well, just in case is here, so back in the car it went. Hopefully this truly will be winter's last gasp, but I still think I'll keep it packed at least until we're into April. Oh, yeah, the studded snow tires are still on the car - thought of changing them last weekend, but decided to leave them on "just in case". Legally I'm supposed to take them off by April 1st, but may wait on that also.

So does anyone else prepare like this for winter?

Almost took off the wife's snow tires last weekend as well. Surprised to hear you use studded tires. Do you find them much better than the unstudded?

In the kind of conditions we have in NJ, slushy, icy snowfalls, studded snowtreads really do a terrific job. Obviously they're not gonna make you stop any quicker, but they'll keep you from sliding out of the lane even on ice. They're noisier than regular snow tires and give you a bit of a rougher ride, but that's all bearable when they get you home.

I do nothing to prepare for winter, lol. But I also tend to not drive more than locally in the snow, mostly because I love being home for snowstorms, tracking them, walking around in them, shoveling them, etc.

And I'd keep the bag in the car for at least the next 2 weeks. As I said in the other thread, the winter long cold pattern will continue and there will be at least a couple of chances at early spring snowstorms. Low probability, of course, but normally, I'd be saying zero probability at this time of year.

I do a 90 mile round trip a day to work, so I'm ready if I break down, get stuck for a very long time on the highway due to traffic/accident/whatever, etc.

I'll tell you all what I do for winter; I go to South Florida for a few months. Crazy thing is, we left there a week ago because it was OVER 87 degrees 4 days in a row. Was nice to come back and see a pretty snowfall.
