Good read. A little sad article . I would like to think it's not true. I like being loud at football and basketball games. I want to believe that by cheering you can actually affect the outcome of the game . The same can't be said for other forms of entertainment like going to a movie or concert .

I think the home crowd can still make a difference, just not consistently. If you think back to our home games against Arkansas and Michigan, I think the crowd made the difference. And unquestionably, the crowd helped in the big wins over Louisville (2006) and USF (2007). But it wasn't enough against UNC in 2008 or WVU in 2012 (though the BE refs determined the outcome of that game).

I'm not sure that the Buckeyes are the best example to use in an article like this since they are so dominating most of the time regardless of where they play. Their "worse home record" would be a great record for more normal teams. I would love for RU to have that as our home record.

Was 2012 that snowy ice-bowl game.. Eric Legrand's return tot he stadium?

Because you cannot expect a huge vocal crowd for that.. and the real difference, imho, was Rutgers allowing WVU to have a pp-up tent at midfield for their Florida-grown QB to stand under.

A damn TENT. WTH was that?

[EDIT: oops.. that was 2011]

This is stupid. The better team, most of the time, is gonna win the damn game. Does HFA help? Of course, but the very premise that HFA's have "died" is likely nothing more someone being bored and having to find something to write about, let's be honest.

Not too sure if this logic applies to basketball games. I think the home court advantage can be huge especially in terms of noise and momentum. Home noise can be deafening and intimidating especially with someone on the free throw line. Also another key here is how football structures it's time outside to accommodate TV coverage and often the momentum created by crowd noise and involvement is depleted. BB while not addressed in the article is and can be totally different. But again the arena atmosphere is far different than a stadium one.
