Wow...I am excited about the changes going on with the Devils, but really liked having Lou in the background as long as he didn't interfere to much with personnel decisions, as he could help maintain the culture of the team. Looks like he is now off to the Leafs. Wonder what this does to Brodeur ever coming back.

The Maple Leafs were a great team in the 60's,winning the Cup back to back in 66-67.They've been rebuilding since that period.I guess that getting Lou is their way of turning over a new Leaf.

End of an era. Say what you will about current day Lou, for a good 10+ year period there was no better small market GM in all of the US/CN major leagues. As a Devils/Rutgers/West Ham/Red Bulls/Jets/Mets fan, it has been a rough 25+ years with the exception of the Devils. Thanks Lou.

It'll still be a while before he can fire his coach and take over for Game Four of Cup Finals with 3-0 lead

Lou had been neutered by ownership and his move from GM to just President was not something that he wanted to do. I think all of that is obvious. So for him to look for another situation that gave him the opportunity he wants makes sense. He has a history with Shanahan...curious how the Toronto fans and media take to his ways and policies.

I also think that he had run out of magic a couple of years ago. The past couple of seasons have not been filled with great managerial decisions. Only real great decision was the Schneider trade. Otherwise he's signed players to bad contracts and had so-so drafts (strong on D and absolutely zero offensive production). It was time for him to move on.

Lou is a smart guy. Good for him. This is what happens when Wall Street people take over. Owning a professional sports franchise is the best investment there is. These people will flip this franchise in 5 years for a .5B profit. If the "owners" bring in Brodeur to a upper mgnt position there may be hope for Devil fans. Don't see happening tho.
