OT: Texas to NC, including the freakin' Gulf Coast about to get rocked with a winter storm

Not surprised but what a nightmare. Will the temps be going up for them?
Today was still around 32F for most of the areas hit hard by snow, so not that much melting, but the next two days will be in the 40s with sunshine and most of the area should be in the 50s on Saturday and the 60s by Sunday. I would imagine most locations will be mostly back to normal by Saturday (and many by Friday), at least with regard to major roads.

Probably a good thing. They don't have the equipment to clear the roads, the material (salt, sand, etc.) to put down or the equipment to spread it.

I made the mistake of staying in town during the 2011 freeze. Was a harrowing trip to IAH on a deserted 59.

Feel free to discuss climate change on the CE Board.

For those who might have heard of the record 110+ mph wind gusts recorded in a powerful storm that hit Ireland and the UK, knocking out power to millions and causing major damage, that storm is actually the same storm that dumped the snow on the Deep South in the US and then bombed out over the North Atlantic with pressure deepening by over 50 mbar in 24 hours (serious bombogenesis).
