COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University men’s lacrosse teams have collaborated to announce the unveiling of “The Rivalry Trophy.”
Serving as a nod to one of the state of Maryland’s most iconic images, the Maryland blue crab, the trophy was made using reclaimed wood from Baltimore, Md., and crafted by Sandtown Millworks. It weighs 25 pounds and measures 32 inches wide and 22 inches tall.
“Our coaching staff and players consider it a great honor and privilege to compete in a rivalry that is much greater than ourselves,” said Maryland head coach John Tillman. “We are thrilled to add even more meaning to the Maryland-Johns Hopkins rivalry with the addition of the trophy.”
