Mr. Magoo was a Rutgers University alumnus.


He graduated the university in 1928 and was apparently quite involved there. He was known to chant, "Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Rho - Rutgers, Rutgers, Go - Go - Go!" The writers wanted Mr. Magoo to have a rich American history.

Actually Mr. Magoo was graduated in 1928 or 1921 or 1906 or a few other years according to various episodes.

In one prescient Mr. Magoo cartoon, Magoo mistakes a bear for a college student and proudly boasts, “I was anchor man on Rutgers great croquet team of ’21. Let me demonstrate the technique that made us the scourge of the Big Ten!” On July 1, 2014, Rutgers officially entered the Big Ten Conference.

Well, as you can see, he is my avatar. I think he embodies all of the traits best connected with RU.

There is a poster about him which is currently hanging in the Rutgers History Department, among others detailing Rutgers History. I was part of the class that made them. I'll try to grab a picture tomorrow.
