OT: My wife could use some good thoughts/prayers (updated 4/7)

Please keep the positive thoughts and prayers coming. Very good doc appointment. Bloodwork numbers came back very good. Still waiting to met with oncologist from MSK. The 26th we meet with an oncologist from our local hospital. Wife is the most amazing woman ever. I told her yesterday if one of us had to get sick I wish it was me. She said not upset she is sick just the timing of it. Really wanted to keep her dad with us as long as we could rather then put him in memory care. My wife has always put everyone else first❤️
Funny, some people forget sometimes how super important their wives are to their lives and families. But obviously you know that already. Hoping for the best.

Hope all goes well during the journey. Stay positive! You both got this!

Been through this fight starting in 2016 when I got sick, working with a local oncologist and a lymphoma specialist at Penn before getting diagnosed 8 months later. it was a watch and wait plan until mid-2023 when it progressed to Stage 4 during a stay at the hospital. While the local doc and the hospital’s board recommended starting chemo immediately, the delay in insurance approval allowed us to connect with a specialist at MSK Middletown. The moment we contacted MSK, they were able to get all my medical records, scans and biopsies within 24 hours, and I was able to do my first visit two days later. She was part of a team running a clinical trial using an immunotherapy drug and was able to get me on. Care plan was great as they scheduled treatment around work. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, especially the teams that did the bone marrow aspirations before and after treatment - the one thing that I feared the most when going thru it at the hospital years ago, was less stressful and with less pain! Great experience at MSK!

We are in North Jersey and my brother in law went to MSK in Montvale and has had great results. We got an appointment but in Middletown. Originally wife thought maybe they heard Monmouth county not Montvale. We are keeping the appointment. Hopeful this doc can treat her but eventually work with Montvale. Thank you again, great info and glad you are doing well.

My wife was diagnosed just days after I responded to this post. Small but malignant tumor and docs are optimistic about her lab results. Still a shock to both of us and reinforces the notion that you never know what the future may hold. I've learned more about breast cancer in the past week than I ever imagined possible.
I am so sorry. If I have learned anything from this it is this. Don’t wait for happiness or good days to find you but rather make them yourselves. I never thought I could be closer to my wife and daughter. Somehow thru this ordeal we are even stronger. I pray for you and your wife.

Keep a positive attitude! It definitely helps. I was diagnosed with a treatable cancer in January. While shocking and stressful, had a good group of support around me. Underwent successful surgery earlier this week and doctors are hopeful everything bad was removed..hoping and praying for a similar outcome for your wife! Stay strong!

Thank you and also praying for you. Can’t thank my Scarlet Brothers and Sisters enough.

May the future be kind to your wife, because the best possible result is part of it.

So sorry you have to deal with this. My wife is at Sloan for reconstructive surgery this Tuesday after her double mastectomy, chemo, and radiation. Been a long year but finally see some light at the end of the tunnel. You’ll get there. Stay positive!

My accountant is going through this now on his hand. Crazy how he found it. Hopefully when I see him about my taxes, already got the good news there, he’ll have some good news to share about his situation.

His attitude is incredible and contagious.

Been on a board break, but wanted to add my best wishes to you, your wife and your family. As others have said, MSK is first rate. I'm more than 10 years out, cancer free, and I elect to spend the time and money to get screened each year to ensure my cancer does not return. From the moment you step out of your car at MSKCC Monmouth, the valet and everyone else who greets you makes you feel welcomed and loved. The care and expertise of the medical team is first rate too.

I'm very sorry to hear this, and I hope everything works out well for you and your wife. I was in the same place 10 years ago with a kidney tumor. Scared me to death. Thought I was tough and invincible. That scare in 2014 caused me to reevaluate my entire outlook and focus in life to strive to be positive every day and take setbacks in stride. Being a Rutgers athletics fan, certainly helps!

I'm happy that your wife's situation is improving, and I am sorry your wife, you and your family had to go through this. You are in great hands. Our next chunk of donations are going to MSKCC. I owe them my life. Best of luck to you!
This board can be a cesspool so much of the time, but when we need to rally for one and other we come through with flying colors.
Yup. Will post very sporadically going forward, but if there are more threads like this, I will pop in. Give Mr Screw a hug for me, and I hope he is doing well.

5 months, 3 surgeries, 33 radiation treatments, 7 chemo treatments, countless hydration sessions, and 40lbs lost later he is doing well and hopefully on the road to recovery. Right now his goal is to gain weight, get back to work in 3 weeks and hopefully get on the golf course this year. I'll give him that hug for you.

Need him in tailgate shape. Those definitely will add a few pounds😎. All the best to you both

Love the dog's name. And that's a great thing you have her do.

MrScrew's surgery was at Penn Hospital in Philly and his chemo/radiation/hydration at the Penn Center in Cherry Hill. They had a couple of therapy dogs that would come visit. Very uplifting to see and interact with the dogs.
Thanks for what you do with that!

Wishing Mr.Screw the best in his fight against that deadly disease.
Will enjoy seeing him post the battle was hard, but he won the war.

I hope to hear the same from Mrs. RUBird

If you have Facebook you can see Rosalita AKA Rosie here at work. This girl's Mom runs this webpage and took and posted the pictures.

Not the best news but better than what it could have been
Will pray for the best and refuse to think the worst.
Stay strong and keep up the good fight.
May that fight not be a hard one, and easily handled ,but last 100 years with you and your wife smiling at each other all the while .
For you RuBird and MrsBird
not what I wrote but what I want to give you love birds

An old Irish blessing

“May the meaning of this hour be fulfilled through the days and years to come. May the love of this here couple, their unity of spirit, grow deeper and stronger in the uncertainties and changes of life they will share. Loving each other, may they love all persons.

Trusting each other, may they learn to trust life. May their love reach out to the love of all, that their lives may bless all whose lives they touch.

May they find comfort together in shared hours of shadow, as well as in the bright sunshine of joy.

May they be to each other both strong and gentle. May all who follow their lives with interest and affection have cause to rejoice not alone in their happiness, but in their brave and generous living which makes life beautiful and significant.”

Latest update waiting on new scans (today) then she starts 12 week round of chemo. They are also looking to see if she can get a chemo pump directly to her liver ( trial). Fingers crossed. She is my rockstar. Staying strong and positive. When doc asked her today how is she feeling she said good. Doc then asked mental state…..any “sad” feelings. She laughed and said no but my husband and daughter do. Proud to say we all signed up for counseling. MSK is just amazing. Thank you again for not only your support, but also the info many of you have provided. Mrs. Bird(Terry) and I (Jay) can’t thank you all enough.❤️

Jay, my prayers continue to be with you and Terry. As I've mentioned, my wife wrapped up 16 weeks of chemo at MSK in Middletown. MSK is never a place you WANT to be. But they do a tremendous job of taking very care of their patients and family. You're in the best/most capable hands. Hang in there. Take good care of your wife while at home. Let her sleep and rest. If she's anything like my wife, she'll want to be up and around and doing things around the house, it'll be your job to keep her resting!

Good luck

Thank you we just had that conversation. Our daughter is trying to do everything for my wife before she goes on. Disney trip with a friend. My wife was saying that the hardest thing first her to do is accept the help. Told her you helped so many for all these years, now is the time to accept what is very deserving. Thank you again, and best to you and your wife
