Unfortunately I have to respond to my recently signed up doppelgänger with the usual "not this crap again" response since he played the "root for New Jersey franchises" card (and also to point out there are two Block Rs now: new BlockR is evidently not a Rangers fan while old Block R most certainly is).

Nice win for the isles last night. Lots of hitting and good game to watch as well. A little too wide open for me but will take the win. Loungo looked vulnerable to shots upstairs.

Tavares was a monster. I hate that I like watching the Isles play.

A good chunk of that game was played in the Islander's zone. Despite being outplayed, they stole the win which is fantastic. They have to pick up their game if they're winning this series though. Can't wait for tonight.

Might be the weirdest schedule to any playoff series. Three games in four nights is fine for regular season, never seen it in the playoffs, and there's even a travel day. ????

Turns out that Florida was even more vulnerable in net than the Islanders were, at least last night. Luongo was very subpar, I thought. Will be interesting to see if Florida goes with Montoya tonight.

I hate this crap. I hate it even more when it's said by Cowboy fans who, I remind in turn, root for a team that doesn't play in the city their beloved team is named nor have they for 45-years now. Oh the looks on their faces when I throw that one out there!

Meanwhile the Rangers/Pens played Game 1 on Wednesday, don't play Game 2 until Saturday.

I don't want to ruin your momentum here, but have you considered that the look on their faces you're referencing is a puzzled look that says "I can't believe this guy thinks those two situations are in any way the same"

For the Rangers fans out there, McIlrath in, Girardi out for game 2. Didn't think AV would do it, but this is the move I wanted to see.

Seems like the right coaching move to me. While you don't want to make a habit of sitting a defenseman that you have locked up for four more years a 5.5 mill per year, you can't have a guy not giving 100% in the playoffs. It could quickly become a cancer to the locker room. This shows that everyone is accountable.

Win or lose, I'm guessing Girardi is back in the lineup for game 3.

It's not that uncommon in the first round. They try to schedule games every other day, but the arenas' availabilities don't always work out that perfectly.

Good win for the R's yesterday, I assumed the series was already over after game 1 if HL was knocked out. Another every day of rest will help.

It's never over until it's over in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It seems like every year there's at least one team that does better than expected because some unexpected guy becomes a hero, or a backup goalie gets his chance and performs just as well or better than the starter. Remember, Lundqvist wasn't a highly-touted prospect or anything, and he only got his chance because Weekes got injured during the 05-06 season.

Great Game 2 yesterday. Lundquist was on and, despite shitting the bed on power-plays (gee, go figure...), we took advantage of our opportunities when we had them.

Mac is back. Pens have a goalie change, but still not Fleury. And rangers fans managed to get through a moment of silence without incident.

Rangers need to get through this penalty and stem the Pitts offensive onslaught right now. Kinda expected them to come out hard as such, on O, but so far Henrik is playing great in the net.

Losing that goal due to offside sucked, however, NOT scoring over the next 3:20 of the power play sucked just as much. That being said GREAT job holding them off the 1st period IMHO.

Ugly since midway through the second period. Not a lot of life, very few chances. Pitt is clamping down, but still a poor effort.

They have a huge problem with not trying to create a frenzy of offense when behind. Same problem in last two home games against Tampa last year; 17 shots in the game, seriously????

It was nice that the NHL said the two hander that took out three of Stalberg's teeth was not "intentional". So, make a throat slashing GESTURE, and you will get suspended; SLASH someone around the mouth/neck and the NHL will do nothing. Alrighty then.

But, the loss hangs on AV. How in the hell are Dan Boyle and Keith Yandle on the ice at the same time. You want one d-man that thinks offensively and one that stays home (in a perfect world). These two knuckleheads took each other out of the play, unbelievable.

They either need to show what they're made of, or go home; it's pretty simple.

Your bias is completely throwing off your perception of these games. It was obviously not intentional. His stick was in the air because he did not yet bring it back down after the follow through on his clearing attempt, and then he got hit by Moore into the boards and the impact from Moore and the boards caused his body to turn while Stalberg happened to be skating right in his direction. This all happened in less than one second. I think it probably should have been a high-sticking penalty even though it was after a follow through because the follow through was over with and he could have brought his stick back down and although he did get hit, you are responsible for your own stick, but a suspension would be absolutely ridiculous in this situation. If he just skated up to him and wound up and bashed him in the face with his stick, then yeah, suspension, but that is clearly not what happened here.

should he be suspended? no, and definately not in the playoffs. should he have been penalized for dobule minor high-stick? yes, and even in the playoffs. it's pretty simple.

That stick play definitely should have been a penalty. A double minor. That said, penalty calls are never perfect and are never going to be. But I'm not sure why the ref didn't call that one during the game. Not issuing a suspension is very defensible though for the reasons you said.

Interesting stories going on in the West: Chicago and LA both down 3-1 now. Would be a huge changing of the guard on that side of the bracket if both of those teams lose -- I think SJ may be one of the most underrated teams this year.

Also a very interesting series going on with Nashville and Anaheim. Big one tonight for the Ducks.

They either didn't have a good view of it or considered it part of Letang's follow through. They missed a high sticking call on the Rangers during that game also. It happens. I think it should be reviewable, but too many people disagree with my opinion that getting the calls right is more important than flow of the game.

Enough Ranger whining. How about some Islander whining? Isles pissed away a golden opportunity to take control of that series at home last night. Not going to get much better performances out of Greiss. They looked tight and conservative from the get go instead of the aggressive gritty play that's become their calling card. Hoping that being back in the "underdog" role will light the spark tomorrow night.

Oh, yes, and Rangers suck.

Tied 1-1 at home with a chance to step on the Panthers throats and they were dominated for most of that 3rd period until the power play in the final minutes. Last nights game may well be their undoing. I grew up an Isles fan and its been my curse. They suck.

Yes, that is what I said.
No, you said it "probably should have been a penalty." There is no "probably". It should have been a 4 minute penalty, it's a completely black and white call.

Your recollection of the play is completely off. You said he hadn't yet brought his stick down. The problem with that is that his stick went up from that point. He was looking right at Stalberg and his motion completely changed in order to crack him in the face. Did he intend to do it? I would hope not, but people do crazy shit all the time when they get caught up in the moment and aren't thinking clearly. Sometimes they even cross check a linesman. Ask Kris Letang about that one too.

I agree it should have been a penalty, but I don't think it is as black and white as you're making it out to be. If the ref thought he was still in his follow through, which is the reason for his stick being up there in the first place, then it isn't a penalty. I think he had enough time to bring his stick back down, but maybe the refs didn't think so. Either way, the point I was making is that a penalty would have been warranted but not a suspension. If the inference is that the Rangers might have won if this was called, well the Penguins might have scored another goal if the high stick on the Rangers that was also missed was called, so it cancels out.

His motion changed because he was pushed forward by Moore and then the left side of his body hit the boards, and he had just tried to clear the puck out of the zone, so he was probably looking up ice to see if the puck made it out or not. The chances that this was intentional are extremely slim.

Won't matter, they can't score. One goal at home in last 3 home playoff games. Ain't good enough.

No excuses, NOT good enough.

Rangers have "gone for it" 4 straight seasons. Giving up alot for players to get them a Cup.

There time may be running out
